Rape/Murder of German tourist: UK press issue warnings to tourists

I have spoken to a few friends about Thailand who have visited for over a decade, all of their comments were pretty much the same, i.e. Thailand has lost her "LOS" appeal for a number of reasons, the main one is the attacks on foreigners.

I live here and have to agree, but she still suites me for my purpose while I am still breathing, but if the air doesn't clear within the next couple of years, I think I will be heading back to the old country and living in some rural town within a couple of hours drive from the big smoke and holiday in Thailand for 2-3 months of the year.

You don't have to return to the "Old Country" though.  There are lot's of places that offer a good lifestyle with better weather than Blighty!  I moved back to get our son a good education and make sure he had all the opportunities of living in the UK but as soon as he has flown the nest I will be off again to somewhere warmer and less argumentative (????).  Not to Thailand though because it really has lost it's appeal for me now.

There should be a couple of volumes of warnings by now the scull and crossbones edition is being updated daily ????

Traffic accidents excepted, Thailand is a far safer place than the UK. The idea that a single young woman should be trolloping about the globe has always been insane, and hopefully these high profile incidents will put an end to the practice.

''Thailand is a far safer place than the UK'' ever compared thailands gun murder rate and murder rate to UK?

in 2016 more than 3,000 people got shot dead in thailand.

in 2016 26 people shot dead in UK.

thailand and UK got similar populations, UK 700 - 800 murders a year VS Thailand 3,000 - 4,000 murders a year.

ive noticed how many write how safe thailand is whenever tourists get attacked/shot/stabbed, do you guys see the irony?

Most of the cases was when Thai shot a Thai.

Spare us your story of life in Pakistan where women are treated like cattle - If you go to the beach you dress for the beach - what would you recommend? Winter attire?

Guess you have never been to a Thai beach mate! Did you see thai girls in tiny bikini's?

I'm from Sydney, and New South Wales has some beautiful coastline places down south and up north.

Only thing is she is expensive, hence the reason I decided to retire 12 years early and live my life here, although I could afford to live there from the sale of my property, I prefer to live rent free here and leave something for the kids to fall back on later in life.

No stress, no rush, just breathing the fresh air...., sometimes.....zzz

I stand corrected.  Sydney is great and there are certainly many beautiful areas.  Don't know why I assumed you were a Brit.  I hope you won't hold it against me.

Do you really believe it's that much safer in the Western world?  I can't speak for Europe but I read local news from the USA and not a day goes past when several young women and little girls are not abducted and murdered.  That does not even take into account the daily litany of domestic violence related murders and brutalization.

I did just check a list:  in order, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Netherlands & Finland are the worlds safest countries for women. Unsurprisingly: Syria, Afghanistan, Yemen, Pakistan & Central African republic are the worst.

It's all part of the true ugly face of Thailand,

Now on show. It's only going to get worse.

You have a society, that does what it wants,  how it want's,  to who ever it wants. with no fear of the consequences of there actions, especial towards foreigners. A lawless place now days.

I think that is a considerable exaggeration, and generalization.

Nah, way more closet psychos walking around here than the rest of the world.

it's what happens,  when your only tought about Thailand,  and the rest of the world does not exist. or at best,  what's known is beneath Thailand.

Maybe relate your comments to the road carnage over here,

what's that all about ? me, me , me, and guess what, more me. !!!!!

Or go toe to toe with a Thai,  over what most people would consider a small issue, see how that goes ? it;s a 50/ 50 if the weapons come out.

I don't think money comes into it, as much as people think over here, on how people behave,   it's largely the stupid broken face syndrome nonsense that does most of them.

( money follows next on the list)

But broken face syndrome, is also the place where the psycho hides.

you know the type,  he has outbursts like children do. the only difference is

real children don't have guns, knives, clubs, in the pram with them.

wish the same could be said about the angry Thai men, full of self importance.

who were tought they are the top of the list all there real childhood.

well done parents.  oh forgot, the parents did the same.

wash rinse, wash rinse, repeat cycle, for the next 100 years.

Yes your right a total generalization,  but very close to the truth, but again, thats a big ask,  the truth in Thailand.

the cancer is deep here.

Disgusting pig, took what he wanted, he though he was entitled to have it.

then killed her.

R.I.P lady. sorry for all the bad guys here.

Sorry for any spelling errors or grammatical errors, 9 beers down. off down Soi 6.  to experience what people do best in Thailand.

Mate, just google the population of the USA and the population of Thailand.

to put a edge on things. very few people will kill you over a 2 dollars in the USA. its a go situation in Thailand.

Years ago the smile was fake,  but still nice and welcoming.  now it's all gone and replaced with hate, jealousy, loathing, and anger. just to mention a few. (plenty more)

Hey, but the shags are still good,  top of the only class on that one.

that won't change as well.  good job. a happy ending for all.

Hahaha you are funny! Conservative ? For crying out loud this happened near Pattaya probably the most “Conservative” City in the world - a city that lives of and thrives on a gigantic sex industry!
What culture you want them to respect ? The culture of beer bars, massage parlors, GoGo-Bars and brothels?
Nothing wrong with that I am not judging - but don’t give us the “conservative” spiel! Are you for real?

How does seeing a woman walking down Main Street “half naked” make you feel? Uncomfortable? Angry? Ashamed? Intimidated? If it does then there might be something wrong with you but not with the women.
The bikini was invented in the 1950’s hardly anything new.

How would you like to see women walking down Main Street to the beach? All dressed and covered up? Saudi Arabia would be a nice country for you to live then.

It is the i,ll do as i damn please on holiday that gets so many foreigners into trouble. Pattaya is NOT a good example of Thailand. You should understand that lame argument !
