Just out of interest, do you have to vote in Thai elections?

Not this time around. You have to hold Thai citizenship for 5 years before you qualify to vote.

  • Even if you became a Thai citizen, Why on earth would any sane foreigner would even want a Thai Passport???........Am I missing something....You would need a Visa just to go back to your home country.

  • Rubbish.

  • You might be surprised how many countries Thais can travel to without a visa. You would still have your home country passport to travel to there unless you are from a country that does not allow

Doesn't matter though - whichever box you tick, Prayuth gets in.

Isn't permanent resident status a required stepping stone prior to citizenship and does PR also allow you to skip the annual visa requirements?

If married to a Thai having permanent residency is not required to apply for citizenship.

If on permanent residence extensions, 90 day reporting and etc are not required.

I have never had PR. I went straight to applying for citizenship based on marriage to a Thai. Actually, it is much cheaper than PR. The official is Baht 5,000 for citizenship as opposed to 95K for PR (based on marriage to a Thai) or nearly 200k if not married to a Thai.

I see some Pakistani got it, so why not me?

If you can qualify for it you can apply for it and be granted Thai nationality. I am sure the person you mentioned did exactly that.
