Video: World "Human Wave" record smashed in Khon Kaen!

The world record for the longest duration "Human Wave" was smashed in downtown Khon Kaen on Monday, the last day of the Songkran festival.

The previous record - held by Japan - was beaten by the Thais.

The wave lasted 17 minutes and 41 seconds.

It was started onstage by mayor Theerasak Theekhayaphon and traveled via thousands of people along Srijan or Khao Niaw Road to Friendship Highway then back and forth.

It beat the previous Japanese record of 17 minutes 14 seconds.

Manager said the world record was expected.

Somporn Narkseutrong of the Guinness World Records Thailand office was on hand to confirm the achievement.

shows good community spirit/connection   what ever rows your boat

Couple this with the road toll and they are "simply the best"!

Just to clarify it was all a misunderstanding, they were actually lining up for something free.

a few rows from the front couldn't see what was going on so they jumped to get a better view, it started a chain reaction!

It is a perverse, fatalistic, mis-interpretation of Buddhism: If it is my day to die, there is nothing I can do about it, so might as well have sanook mak-mak! And if it isn't my day to die, it doesn't matter, and I can do whatever the <deleted> I want!

It was a fantastic "fun" experience and I had the privilege to participate as a Tourist Police Volunteer. When the record was broken a spectacular firework display commenced. Well done Khon Kaen - now in the Guinness Book of Records!

Sorry. That many people trying to occupy the same space at once is hardly "fun."  More like the 9th Circle of Hell in my opinion.
