7-11 Thai only ?

Featured Replies

Subject  7-11 shopping.   Shopping here and noticing price reductions if you apply for a member card,  So I applied, they refused my application , as only THAIS can be a member.

I will only shop now for emergency.   after near 30 years shopping here, disgusting discrimination.

  • Are you suggesting Thais could be small brained and possibly racist?  They are universally wonderful people and if you say anything to the contrary, you are the small brained racist.

  • I thought everyone only ever shopped at 7-11 in an emergency.

  • If you don't shop at 7/11 anymore you will live a longer and healthier life. Be grateful.

How could you say anything bad about these people?  Look how lovely they are, always doing that thing with their hands, sweet gibberish language, always laughing and smiling, even when they rip you off or are being rude to you, they're sooooo nice about it!  ????

If you've got some spare time on your hands and are up for a doodle, you could rock the boat on Facebook.  If it goes viral, you can expect VIP treatment from the 7-11 Franchiser.  The staff member will forever have daggers for you though, watch your back in the village.

That's right my wife shops there for me, not everything sold there is bad for you, what a lot of silly comments.

Because of the reaction it was hardly worth mentioning,  would have thought it may have created some interest and even surprising some posters.     But look at the replies on the topic.

Maybe most people just pay up on the two tier discrimination and it not bother them.....Me thinking 7-11 is international and have every customer at heart.  Oh well,  I have just found out that all Thais have little money, and foreigners are all millionaires.

I hope you also avoid all places that offer the payment method "True wallet". When you pay with it you get points which can be used like money. True wallet is also only available for Thais, so it's clearly racist.

Curious how much the Op would save on a monthly basis if he had the card? Or would it just influence him into purchasing discounted items that he otherwise would not?

Ridiculous post,  the money savings was not the topic, it was scheme that should not bar any customer,  OR the poster was Joking, or he couldn't think of a more silly answer.   FACT

The topic was being informative, but we always get the keyboard tinkler that cannot resist being OFF the point

Oh dear, I am no that dense, 39 years from the first time,  but was only aware of the said topic point last week, only a good friend in 7-11 pointed out the fact.  It is no big deal to me for scrimping to save 5 baht.  it was that it was another place that practices the racist thing.

Agree with you about the ice cream, it was the fact that an international company would bar non Thais.  savings was irrelevant.

I return my Lazada purchases there and buy my organic yogurt.  Why would I live longer?  I pay my utility bill there.  Would I live longer if I didn't?  I buy my toothpaste there.  Would I live longer if I didn't brush?  I buy my deodorant there and bottled water.  Shouldn't I?

The thing that annoys me the most about these issues is that if something similar happened to a "minority" back in Falangistan, then the press'd have a field day with headlines like "All whites are Nazis" or "Such and such a minority is not welcome in ...... (fill in the country)". However, here it never gets beyond TV.

Maybe if somebody organized a boycott of a particular business, like 7/11, for it's double standards/pricing, then maybe, just maybe, these companies would wake up and realise that, yes, we are a minority here, but our business does add up and makes some difference to their bottom line.

They usually don't even realize it's racism so if you complain about it you're the bad guy.

SOMETIMES they not mean it --it's just easier because they need a Thai ID card. BUT they could have a passport or an I.D. driver licence so no excuse really.   entrance to National parks double entrants fee ??   they always did it, is the Thai excuse.

Seriously:

1. Almost all "food" that you can buy at 7/11 is not healthy. I cannot imagine that anybody doesn't know this.

2. Many loyalty programs and similar things in Thailand are tied to the (Thai) ID card. This is not necessarily racist. Many organisations figure it is not worth the effort to run parallel programs in Chinese, English etc for people with different forms of ID, different format of names (Chinese,  Koreans: names have 3 parts, family name comes first; Indonesian allows for people with only one name)  and different script and language.

Actually,  many things here can be done with different form of ID and in many languages,  think of banking or AIS/true/DTAC. (In my home country,  they all would require the national language.)

They have chicken breast and sliced ham steak that's good.  The yogurt selection is twice that of Louts.  The bottled flavored waters are good and healthy.  They have steamed rice and many other things that are healthy.  As usual one must open eyes and look.

!, total rubbish. Would love to know when you did your survey. Cannot imagine most people believing you. ( "ALL FOOD almost " )

I use the member card lots for promo stuff like Pepsi which for some time now has given 3 Baht discount for every 2 cans purchased up to max 20 cans per transaction. Also get purchase points which can be cashed or used to buy more stuff.

Cant imagine why 7 does not allow foreign passport ID in applications. Maybe its just too complicated and not worth the trouble to integrate another ID method.

At 7eleven it is the chip on the cards that make this an issue.

Only the Thai ID for nationals has these chips.  Driving licenses and the pink Thai ID for non-nationals dont bear any chip.

It is not 7eleven to blame, but the CP company for not investing in the right IT system, the computer only accept inserted cards. Even Thais with a old ID card or show up with the house book are denied.

At 7 you cannot register your SIM card, but at the Provider Service Stores it can. So, it is not the product but the computer software.

By the way, it is not only this issue but also Top up mobile for AIS is not available anymore at CP chains.

Thais have to go elsewere too.

I got my 7card years ago, bought it and it came with gifts.

Now the 7card is promotional free, (allmember) but need register along with your phonenumber.

You can just enter your phonenumber, or give the ALLmember card, to get the points/discounts.

The old 7cards had the same, they need to be re-registered to continue use.

(I used a Thai ID card from GF, but my name and phonenumber is still in the system)

Difference between these card is that the old card can carry credits and store points, and the new allmember is just for the points.

Blame the IT system.

Rgds,

I don't accept loyalty cards simply because I value my privacy and don't want them to track how many condoms I buy (I'd be embarrassed by how few), how much whiskey I consume (it's none, BTW) or any of my spending habits for that matter.

I'm sure that costs me a few hundred baht a year in lost discounts.  But when the zombie apocalypse happens, they will have a harder time tracking me down.
