Water meter taken
At my house in Isaan when finally water went by, the water dept. came to me and said I need to buy a water meter for 3,000 baht. My neighbors paid 400 baht for theirs. I mentioned that to the officials. I told them I won't use city water, I will just use the 3,000 baht to buy more tanks for rain water. I was very polite to them. The police came the next day and escorted me to the police station. They told me it was against the law to buy tanks without previous permission from the Phu Yai Baan and the Kamnan. Which is BS. They hinted that "I was on their list of trouble makers." They demanded copies of my Visa, work permit, marriage license, house registration, birth certificates of my kids copies of all my relatives Thai ID cards that were living on the same site. I had to go 20 kilometers away to the nearest copier. When I gave them the copies they said to me "wouldn't it be nicer to live in Bangkok?" I bought a water meter the next day for 1,500 baht. No problem after that. -

60-day visa exemptions are now unlimited at land borders
You would have been fine going to Chiang Khong. You just have to spend 2 nights in Laos now (which you did in Nong Khai as well) and they might have asked to see your flight back to Germany as well as 10,000 baht in cash. Not sure if Nong Khai is enforcing those other requirements or not though. There is no such thing as a 15 day entry stamp for someone with a passport from a visa exempt country. -

Forced to book a hotel on the spot
I wasn't even able to cancel it because it was too soon, but I booked the damn cheapest room I could find in BKK so No Wuckers! haha.. I have a few question now. Does the IO have the right to force me to book a room on the spot before they let me in? And does the IO have the right to deny me entry into Thailand if I refuse to book a room on the spot? I got really surprised when that IO asked me if I had booked my flight back home yet, though. The Immigration at Chong Mek was so busy when I got there in the Lao-Thai international bus that there was 1 officer ushering the passengers into each of the 3 immigration booths available at the time, so I wasn't even able to choose which one to proceed to. That IO did look MALE to me at first, but later on turned out to be FEMALE as I got closer to HER. PS Apparently all the Thai & Lao people had to give Tea Money to the IOs on the Lao side but I didn't. They might ask you for that if you should go through there at the weekend as overtime fee, so please beware! Good luck! -

Could Canada Join the EU?
My God are people ever so fearful of totalitarian govts trampling on them. Where does this excessive fear come from? Most of these western countries are generally safe, with decent access to education and healthcare and decent to good to very good standard of living, depending how hard-working you are. Most of the crap we experience in life is what people around us do to us. -
