ED Visa for south asians

Featured Replies

Hi everyone.

I am pakistani living in Germany (married to a German). We are planning to move to Phuket, Thailand. I would like to take a Thai language Course in Phuket.

I applied or tried to apply at the Genius Language school in Phuket but they told me that I can not apply as I am a pakistani national and it is not possible to apply for the ED VISA. I am really stressed and really need help figuring out how  and if I can move to Thailand.

I was wondering does anyone know any language institutes that will be able to give me all the required documents (acceptance letter); of course I will apply at the school and pay the fees. If anyone has any information on how to get an ED visa or good institutes that would be able to guide and help me that would be wonderful.
**Would be really helpful if someone here is a Pakistani national or knows a Pakistani national and is willing to share their personal experiences.
Thank you in advance.
Areeba

Are both of you planning to move to Thailand, or only you? I'm only asking because it shouldn't be a problem when you arrive as a married couple. On what kind of visa would your German husband then be? Didn't you write that both of you are planning to move to Phuket?

There are several Pakstani students studying at the Asian Institute of Technology (www.ait.ac.th) in Bangkok. You might want to contact their student union - they might even have a Pakistani student org as there are many - and talk to Pakistanis there.

As far as I know there is no rule or regulation that states any countries are restricted from attending school here.

Perhaps the problem for the school is that they are aware you would have to apply for the single entry non-ed visa at an embassy or consulate in Pakistan or Germany if you have residency there. Most schools would only be familiar with the requirements at a nearby embassy or consulate.

I am sorry what would the school be unaware of ?

Yeah I tried to speak to the school and tell them I will be applying for the visa from Germany but need to fulfil the requirements in order to apply for the visa.

This letter seems to be impossible to get.. I am not sure why. The school needs to write an acceptance letter that I will be studying there for 25 hours a week 5 hours per day 5 days a week and it should be signed but the head of the school.

As far as I know there's no branch in Phuket. But the Pakistani community at AIT is large so they should have some insight into the ins and outs of Pakistanis staying in this country.

Yeah we are planning to move to Thailand. He is German so he can just go on a visa on arrival and stay there for 3 months and then go to Malaysia or another neighbouring country for a day or two then come back in to Thailand for another 3 months.

I seem to be the problem. haha

The may not know about the requirement to apply in Germany. Every embassy or consulate can have different requirements.

The documents from the ministry of education should be the same as anywhere. But the school needs to supply other documents to prove your are enrolled in a course of study.

Perhaps look on the website of the embassy or consulate where you will be applying and print out their requirements to show them.

Your husband would enter on a visa exempt entry, not a visa on arrival. That would give him 30 days, which he can extend for another 30 days at an immigration office. Not sure where you're getting 3 months from.

Just curious, how long does it take for a person married to a German to get German citizenship? With a German passport it will be easy.
