BANGKOK, 27 April 2019 (NNT) - Terrorism is a threat which is faced by all countries including Thailand and other ASEAN member countries. At the end of this year, ASEAN member countries and dialogue countries will attend a joint anti-terrorism drill for the peace and security of the region.

Lt. Gen. Chatchai Phattharanavik, Commander of the Global Counterterrorism Operations Center, recently held a press conference on the intermediate training plan preparation meeting of the working group of anti-terrorism experts under the framework of the ASEAN Defense Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) which was also attended by the Ministers of Defense of dialogue countries.

The meeting was attended by 17 member countries, consisting of nine ASEAN member countries except Brunei Darussalam, and eight dialogue partners including Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, the People’s Republic of China, India, Japan, the Russian Federation and the United States.

The meeting exchanged views and information in order to maximize the effectiveness of joint anti-terrorism action. The member countries have approved a deployment structure, and a training program, as well as guidelines for the collaboration of the ASEAN Military Medical Center in developing effective medical operations to support anti-terrorism initiatives.

In addition, there will be a problem-solving exercise on the table in Thailand in September 2019 and field training in the People’s Republic of China in November 2019, to ensure the peace and security of the region.

other countries just get on with it, not this lot, got to have the photo shoot and let every man and his dog know what they are doing, (that includes terrorsts) cant help it can they, lol !!

Usually those anti-terrorism drills are followed by some real terror activities. It seems to be a common partner. Just wonder if this will be the case. Not sure who they gonna blame. Maybe the Muslins.

Not another drill. They had one before in 2010 when they shot a few innocents in Bangkok . Maybe they will increase the scope of it this time to other cities to ensure the natives know their place in the new order.

Sri Lanka is only 7% Muslim but the extremists were able to get into some of the mosques preaching hate and fanatic theology to its followers- even to the wealthy and educated.

Sri Lanka proved it only takes a few converted Muslims (8?) to go and blow themselves up in order to kill the “infidels”.

I hope the Thailand government is more pro-active with this kind of toxic indoctrination going on mosques, especially in South Thailand which to me is an ISIS potential “playground “. I worry about Phuket someday becoming a target.

I was under the impression there has been terrorist activity in the South getting on for 20 years with thousands of dead, and yes it is a Muslim activity. usually called an insurgency.

What was the outcome of the Bangkok bombing in 2014?

Was there an outcome? Besides the feverish action to save tourism.

4 or 5 suicide bombers in Bangkok, with all the tall glass clad buildings would be quite a statement that I doubt this government would be helpless to prevent

Especially for Thailand and Cambodia that face the terrorism of threats from public disclosure, accountability and freedom of speech.

I certainly do not believe conspiracy blogs or propaganda websites. One must be a well informed detective before jumping to conclusions. I read my news from CNN, BBC, Al Jazeera, and RT ( for a different view point). A lot of bias propaganda blogs out there for the gullible. ( There are short  security videos showing the restaurant at Shangri-la hotel before the terrorist blew himself up. Very clear there were people there.-But I am sure you doubt reliable sources.)

I realize ANNIR mission seek’s “ to harness the knowledge , skills, and political platforms of engaged anthropologists to support and advocate on behalf of immigrants and refugees but they do have bias opinions. Showing this one video clip is to only support their agenda.

Based upon the definition of terrorism. then clearly it already exists in Thailand and has done for many years;

terrorism
/ˈtɛrərɪzəm/
noun

  1. the unlawful use of violence and intimidation, especially against civilians, in the pursuit of political aims.
    "the fight against terrorism"

That drill, obviously, consisted of a response to the terroristic burning of buildings as ordered by a certain group that also threatened to build another army, threatened to divide the country, threatened political opponents, and killed a few, here and there.

And was shooting at police and soldiers hiding behind protestors?

Maybe you remember?

Do you also remember the 2000 murders, more of less, of "drug dealers" during the reign of the same group?

Maybe you remember?

Do you also remember the murder of several people protesting against the group's government?

Forgotten, I presume?

I will state the obvious...having just experienced an election...with no clear winner...the current government is exercising its muscle to keep the natives in check...

Or is it that they have seen some chatter on the dark web that they can not trace and are running scared that something may happen soon ?

beware drills as they are often accompanied by the real thing, 911 cough cough

I think it's in preparation of a counter attack from ex expats that were or going to be excommunicated from Thailand due to supply chain logistical problems. Included in their ranks are SAS, CIA, and french foreign legion troops recruited from the bar perches of Patty, Phuket and smoky CM. Said to be reorganizing on the borders of Cambodia and Myanmar, the authorities are combing Air bnb sites for leads. Could be in for a long one folks....

I get the feeling in this country talking about it makes them think they are acting on it.

You answered your own question - everything possible was done to sweep the event "under the carpet" money #1
