Kampot Provincial Court yesterday charged a Turkish national with drug use and trafficking. Major General Mao Chanmathurith, chief of Kampot provincial police, identified the accused as Elitok Robil, a 52-year-old tourist who rented a house in Kampot city’s Kraing Ampil commune.

Maj Gen Chanmathurith said that the accused yesterday was charged with drug use and trafficking following his arrest on Tuesday. He is now facing two to five years in jail if convicted. Ahead of his trial, Mr Robil is currently being held at the provincial prison. Major Duong Chamroeun, deputy chief of Kampot city police, said yesterday that the accused was targeted for distributing drugs, noting that he had sold drugs to foreign tourists in Kampot and Kep provinces.

Maj Chamroeun said that police traced Mr Robil’s identity and his residence based upon information provided by two Chinese nationals who had bought drugs from him in the past. Maj Chamroeun noted that police then sought permission from the prosecutor at Kampot Provincial Court to raid the home of the accused.
