Those without experience will be expected to do a cold reading from the script or another piece of dramatic material which will be supplied at the audition. The Dodo Bird is that rare combination- a play which is both educational and entertaining. It is a long one act piece about a long evening in a workingman’s bar. The three chief characters work at the foundry across the street. By the time the bar closes we know more about the foundry and the guys who work there than we ever thought we’d want to know. And it’s fascinating. “The Dodo Bird is a play that should be on the reading list of every course in introductory sociology, social psychology and the sociology of work. The Dodo Bird is an exciting dramatic play that intensely portrays the real-life interaction of members of the working class- a class whose behavior sociologist, by and large, know only second-hand. The Dodo Bird makes the observer a participant in an important part of working class life.” Dr. Jeffrey M. Schevitz Assistant Professor of Sociology Buffalo College “It is a surprisingly interesting piece. A kind of brutal, gutsy realism we seldom see today” –The Virginia Pilot “There is tension here and a highly amusing bit when nice guy outwits brutal guy. There is also some very true language” – New York Post
