The event will feature 15 hot-air balloons – as well as a larger-than-life Elvis Presley effigy and other fun characters – from nine countries including the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, USA, Brazil, and Japan.

As well as viewing balloon flights in the morning, visitors can also enjoy the dazzling Balloon Night Glow performance with light and sound effects from 5pm-10pm.

Great opportunity to witness Thainess at its best. Eat disgusting food covered in horrid sweet, sour or spicy slime. Oggly young women caked in way too much make up. Gather around an athletics track while dozen of foreigners inflate their teathered balloons with the help of a hoard of faffing locals. Quite a visual spectacle on one hand. Utterly disappoint at the lack of elevation or ‘flying’ of any discription - zip, Pfft. What a let down.

Balloon "festival"?!?!

Half a dozen balloons in a field. Whoopy doo.

There were always more than that on a normal Sunday monring take-off in an out-of-the-way backwaters field when I was a pilot in England.

It's all relative, Hat Yai's not somewhere in the UK.

It's Thailand, there's more than one balloon, so why not call it a festival.

My granddaughter enjoyed seeing the balloons so job done.

Reading the responses on this thread I fail to understand why there are so many sneering comments. Thailand is Thailand, not a facsimile of the US or UK, if folks want life as in the West why on Earth do they bother staying in Thailand? In recent years TV seems plagued with whingers; if you want 'tea like mom makes' for pity's sake just go home!
