Really fun to watch the spectacle and speculate about the future and well-being of those who oppose this fabricated ruse...

Amid all the pomp and circumstance lies a dark quiet merciless culture...

"....lies a dark and quite merciless culture.."

Very much so, indeed.

Not even worth commenting on. The Thai military is an embarrassment.

Thai tradition- always get the most qualified person (family member) for a job.

The utter contempt in which these faux-elites hold the Thai people is beyond nauseating.

Talk about urinating in their faces and then kicking them when their hands and legs are tied - and then doing even more disgusting things to them (which I cannot mention here).

Heaven help poor Thailand!

Don't forget the Buddhist perspective - the lower orders belong there because of their bad deeds in former lives; the elite are there because of the opposite

Give fatty another medal and a watch, good boy!

There seems to be a strong genetic component to being a 'good person'. ????

What are you implying? there can be no whiff of corruption with this deputy PM

There is also the perspective:- If you want to know what you will be in your next life observe your behaviour in this life. A lot of poverty stricken street cleaners coming up soon.

Well, the military are in every <deleted intentionally> anyway, I wonder how many other 'brothers' are around that we we don't know of?

No nepotism, go on move on nothing to see here. God nothing ever changes in Thai politics.

At least the previous blokes could actually be voted out. The situation has gone progressively worse. Warning been given, to bloody deaf ears.

Another watch for his collection!!!

Nepotism: Good for the elite Goose, but not for the common Gander.

Or the brother who took care of millions of baht on his own bank account?

Or the brother whos' son was awarded millions of dollars worth of military contracts?

Is this the unusually financially well-endowed brother of the big T, who was in the news a few years ago, or are there other, more needy male siblings?

And to think it's all happening on Prawit's.....er.....watch....

Thai voters got what they wanted - if they are unhappy, then the can vent their spleen as of now. Coronation over, article 44 over - the only risk is ....... yep, another coup d'etat. Been there, done that ...............

Mrs. Connda is happy.  Election went just the way she wanted.
Her vote counts; my opinions don't.  Now there is reality.

Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwan today defended the appointment of retired General Preecha Chan-o-cha, the younger brother of Prime Minister Prayut, as a senator.

you scratch my back and I will scratch yours....people are appointed by whom they know and not by their merits, pity

Just gets better and better... Thailands future is screwed (unless your a general)

Hell even Thais are trying to get out of the country & work anywhere they can get across the border!

Pricks!

Well....at least they know that they have a better chance for compliance from family, makes it safe to do anything the junta feels looks good in the trough.

The purpose and intent of the bicameral parliamentary system has been violated by this junta. The upper house has the responsibility to scrutinize the house of representatives. The senators need to be better qualified in terms of qualification and seniority and must not be involved as family members. Besides the need for election, they must not be in a political position for more than 5 years to the application date or date of nomination. All those original requirements have been violated by this government and the upper house looks more like a half-way house for family members and associates.

Guess you're talking about Thailand, aren't you?

Returning twice the happiness to the Thai people!

Adding to this, the results of your "election" are in question and you know it, BUT you still revel in the belief you won.  Just amazing stuff.

How much will be left for the thai people when this typhoon is finished sweeping through the country.

Are there no depths of depravity and corruption that this fellow will not defend and justify as though it were a holy obligation.

If there is one thing you can count on from this hapless army, is that they will never, ever appoint anyone based on merit, and always appoint someone based on cronyism, connections, support, or family ties.

The Thai army. Moving the nation backwards at a breath taking and astonishing pace.

This is why military governments fail economically. It is also why they have to be authoritarian or despotic, because they fail economically and the population gets restive. The economy is slowing here in Thailand and will, I think, get worse as the incompetent, unqualified get positions of authority and leadership without having the skills to make good judgements and decisions.

Yep. And I have said on other similar threads that soldiers are trained as soldiers and not politicians (financiers etc.) but didn't spell it out as you have.

When willcorruptio end in Thailand,,,  Never!
