Can anyone recommend a best physiotherapist or physical doctor in Bangkok for my left polio leg

Featured Replies

Hi, can anyone recommend a best physiotherapist or physical doctor in Bangkok for my left polio leg that was able to walk without any assistance/crutches?

My left’s leg is polio when I was 10 months old. I was able to walk with lame without any assistance and able to walk down on staircase but was not able to walk up on staircase with the polio leg. Walking is one of my hobby and I used to walk at least 1 hour almost every day until 2011. I am 57 years old now.

I fall 8 years ago (2011) and metal implanted on my polio thigh bone due to fracture that was fully healed. I fall again 2 years later (6 years ago) and my polio leg shin bone had to be plastered due to fracture that was completely healed around 2 months later. However, I was on elbow crutches since then.

I have used gym balls for stability, strength and micro movement as much as I can for my polio leg for around 2 hours/day with a little bit rest and I walked on treadmill by lifting of some of my weight for my polio leg via my both hands hold on the treadmill around 1 hour/day (with some rest in between) since 1 and half year ago.

I walk with my right hand using one elbow crutch and my wife hold my left hand for some stability for around 70 minutes/day (with around 40 minutes’ rest and 30 minutes’ walk) since 8 months ago. There is some good improvement. However, my polio leg is still very weak to walk without both crutches. I hope to walk independently without any crutches.

Thank you so much and have a wonderful day.

Can't say the best but I have had some physio at Bangkok Christian Hospital on Silom Road. Not a fancy facility but... up and down stairs, up slopes etc...

If cost is a constraint (and costs in a private hospital will mount up quickly) you could try this place which is a government facility under Royal  patronage  solely dedicated to rehab/PT:

Sirindhorn National Medical Rehabilitation Institute

It is in Nonthaburi not far from Don Muang airport. Off of Nongwangram road.

Thank you, Sheryl for your kind recommendation. There is very limitted information about physical doctors in their web site. Can you kindly recommend the best physical doctor there? Have a nice day.

No, I don't have any specific names and also I don't think you can choose as it's a government facility. But all the doctors there specialize in this and they also have large team oh physiotherapists, more than you will find most places. They will certainly have more experience with ex polio cases than you will find at a private hospital.
