Who are you kidding? Online Thais pour scorn on "Pattaya 5G Smart City" claims

Who are you kidding? Online Thais pour scorn on "Pattaya 5G Smart City" claims

Thais online poured scorn on plans to introduce the new 5G network to Pattaya.

The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society was trumpeting an agreement with Pattaya mayor Sonthaya Khunpluem to introduce a trial of the 5G network along Pattaya beach.

In an upbeat story reported by "We Love Pattaya" they called Pattaya a "Smart City" and an ideal place to trial 5G what with all the Thai and foreign tourists.

But posters on the story were not having that. They launched into a joint tirade slamming the plans.

Huge numbers of Thais said that 3G and 4G were not even working properly. Now they expected 5G to work! It was just a big joke, they said.

Others poured scorn on the plans ridiculing the "Pattaya Smart City" suggestion.

Sungwan Boouchu said the authorities should sort out other more terrestrial matters like the problems involving buses, taxis and baht buses (the resorts' song thaews).

Parichart Khwanthong told them to forget 5G and bury all the unsightly cables that make the resort look such an unholy mess.

Others commented on doing something about litter in the city before bothering with 5G nonsense.

Wannaporn Thephatsadin Na Ayuthaya of the DE Ministry has come to an agreement with the mayor saying that 5G is the way forward and will inspire more start-ups in Thailand.

And Pattaya was the ideal place to showcase 5G and get the opinions of users.

They certainly seem to have got their opinions already, and no one can say it's the usual 'whingeing expats' either.

The peeps in charge really only go for the show factor don't they. Never the real issues being dealt with that would have the most beneficial impacts on the residents.....

I hope it is more of a success than the free wi-fi which never materialised on Pattaya beach.

Maybe "smart city" is referring to this definition of "smart": 1 : to cause or be the cause or seat of a sharp stinging pain

And this my friends is why Thailand never goes anywhere...

Pattaya mayor Sonthaya Khunpluem announced plans today to shoot Pattaya into orbit. This bold move will get rid of the polluted ocean and beach which so negatively has affected the city in the past, while at the same time granting the much needed zero-gravity effects to the thousands of service providers whose physical attributes were beginning to sag. The plans involve the participation of Elon Musk's space agency to shuttle tourists to the family resort.

The resulting hole in the ground is available for rent to the government to bury their failures and incompetence.

Don't speak too soon.

One pair of sandal socks to the first 'in my country,' and a Singha vest to the first 'what they should do....' ????

Bloody Thai Thai-bashers.

The really smart cities are those which are refusing to become guinea pigs in a vast social engineering experiment with potentially disastrous consequences.

The potential hazards of powerful 5g radiation are already well documented. Yet such is the lobbying power of the industrial giants behind the new system's worldwide rollout that hardly a note of caution is ever sounded in the mass media - which, coincidentally benefits from all the associated advertising.

Everyone interested in discovering the scary reality behind the glitzy pro-5g propaganda should take a reality check here:

So many start-up founders have mentioned to me this single obstacle as the reason they are not here yet.

did the mother ship from the end of "Close Encounters" stop off and pick up the The Petronas Towers before going to warp? :cheesy:

Nice to see the Thai population voicing some very sensible suggestions and observations. I might add that finding a solution to the seasonal flooding situation could be a bigger priority than installing a 5G system, especially as folks have mentioned that the technical wizards overseeing this stuff haven't been able to get 3G or 4G working properly yet.

Nah. That's Min's Bar on Soi Buakao before all those brawling Brits trashed it.

well, maybe if they hooked up all the working CCTVs to wifi?  Save some cabling?  Or maybe the CCtvs already are wifi connected?

As I learned long ago, never let the truth stand in the way of a good story.

Just add it to the long list of failures.

I'm with TOT on the Dark Side.  If they can't get this to work on a Saturday night there's not a hope in hell for 5G!

This bit puzzled me -

I don't see how having 5G in Pattaya encourages start ups in the whole country.

Well social media got the "No thats a stupid idea part right" but they did not quite get the reasons right.....

For thoes who do not know 5G can not be broadcast from large towers...There needs to be mini towers covering a city... Like every block or more.....The radiation is a huge subject but besides that 5G is needed to make a total surveillance state work......

5G will be used to monitor you air-con users too....If you go over you daily allowance of electricity ,well you just might need to be spending some time at a re-education camp...lol

Politicians all over the world are tripping over each other to be the first to sell out their fellow man with 5G....Hell they would sell out their mothers if it would raise their job status one notch......

But 5 G spots would get you the  label of a butterfly ????

Real 5G will take at least 5-10 years to roll out.

We're talking thousands of massive array antenna towers (MIMO) with up to 500 antenna per tower, and literally billions of tiny repeaters/transponders stuck onto everything that moves, and doesn't.

There will be repeaters on walls, and poles, trashcans, you name it.

That's 5G reality.

If that infrastructure is not there, it's not 5G.

Yes, from what I've read there's a lot more towers required. But, as they say, don't let the details get in the way of a good story.

Same as the not very fast 4G they have already down to lack of infrastructure, as long as they think it's 4G and are told that, everyone's happy.
