We planted this Pisonia Alba, commonly known as Lettuce or Cabbage tree about 3 weeks ago and it's not looking too good. We bought it off our local gardener, he had it at home in a pot, so he came around, dug a hole and planted it. That was about 3 weeks ago and it's not showing any signs of new growth. It was fertilised and has received a good watering. These can be beautiful trees when established, they offer some contrast against the dark green of most trees. Don't know much about planting trees, maybe it needs more time, what do you think? The pics are of mine and one that it hopefully will look like eventually.

We have one also and it is a beautiful tree.

Planting this time of year is always a bit og a risk but if you give it enough water it should survive.

Maybe you can pluck half of the leaves off and give the tree more time to grow bigger roots.Did you dig a big hole and fill it with good soil or compost?

Yes, it got a good planting, some cow manure at the bottom of the hole and some good quality potting mix on top. It has been watered regularly as well. What is wrong with this time of year, too hot, and why pick off the leaves?

Yes the sun has been too hot,we got sunburn on a lot of plants this year.

When you pick off leaves the tree does not have to maintain them thus more energy for growing roots.We always do that when we move trees,even in rainy season.

Dig down a wee bit and make sure the actual root ball is moist but not waterlogged.  You could mist the leaves some in the morning and late afternoon/evening.  Or strip some of the sad leaves or cut back the ends of the branches just a bit.  However, it appears that the new, small leaves are perkier then some of the older ones.  Dunno.
