King Norodom Sihamoni will leave for France today to attend an event being held to commemorate the successful work done by the International Coordinating Committee for the Safeguarding and Development of the Historic Site of Angkor over the past 25 years. He will be seen off by Senate president Say Chhum, National Assembly president Heng Samrin, Prime Minister Hun Sen, and other senior government officials at Phnom Penh International Airport.

Defence Minister Tea Banh yesterday confirmed that he will be at the airport to send off the King today. “It is an honour for Cambodia that the French government is supporting ICC-Angkor’s work,” he said, adding that King Sihamoni will return to the Kingdom on Sunday.

Long Kosal, spokesman for Apsara Authority, said that the King will attend the meeting as Cambodia’s head of state. “The French are interested in ICC-Angkor’s work on heritage conservation in the historical site of Angkor,” Mr Kosal said. “They have asked Cambodia for a presentation of its successes.”
