Visa Married To Thai National

Recommended Posts

Hiya All,

my friend is returning to Thailand after spending some time with his Thai Wife and Children in the UK. He was a teacher before and hopes to resume work as a teacher in Thailand. He holds teaching certificates has a degree and is not an undesirable.

The concern is what rules now apply to his situation, he is returning on a Non Immigrant Multi Entry Visa on arrival

1) Married to Thai

2) Seeking Teaching work, but maybe will not find immediately as seeking work in rural Thailand

Does the 400,000 thb rule come into play or??????

Thanks for all replies :o

On the qualification side he should be OK.

The 400K in the bank is no longer an option,

they must show a combined family income of 40K a month to qualify for the

one year visa extension based on marriage.

Normally I would recommend a Non Imm O single entry visa, but

the multi will give him time to find work without having to bother immigration.

He will just need to do a visa run every 3 months.

Hopefully a year will see him with a suitable job then he can apply for the one year extension.

Believe a police check from the UK will be required if he has not lived in Thailand and wants to work as a teacher so he might want to take care of that now.

Criminal record clearance certificate in the United Kingdom or Ireland (issued by the national police department)

All schools should provide a visa. He would be lucky to be getting any position over 25,000 a month in the NE.

Thanks for that Dan Sai, we sort of new that one, he is actually on the phone now so its all good news for him anyways.

Schools can help get him an O or B visa to allow him to work. The O available for that will be tied to his work permit and is not the same as the marriage/support visa.

Many of the schools in Khon Kaen pay more than 25k. Several recent ads on the 'other' site.
