A leading policeman in charge of road traffic reform has warned the Thai public that police can still confiscate licences despite a notice in the Government Gazette.

In future motorists will be able to show a picture of their licence on their phone and police will use this to enter their new online system.

Fines and the new points system will all be connected automatically and tax will not be able to be paid until everything is cleared.

But Maj-Gen Ekkaluk Limsangkat warned the public that the system will only come in after a 120 day period from the May 22nd official announcement.

So until September 19th it's business as usual - police have the right to take your licence and make you pay a fine at the station, reported Daily News.
