I have just had a new keyboard to one of my laptops, it works fine, but I now find

there is no sound, I have tried the obvious things but no good.

Can getting a new keyboard fitted interfere with anything to do with the sound?

If using Windows OS, go into Device Manager and see what is listed in "Sound"

It is entirely possible that the technician has forgotten to reconnect a plug on the sound card or speakers.

In replacing the keyboard the technician might have had to remove some other connectors and he forgot to reconnect an audio connector or didn't reconnect it properly.   Or somehow the new keyboard is causing a sound circuit conflict....a driver conflict.  Go into Windows Devices manager and see if your Audio and Keyboard areas/drivers are operating/showing any conflict.

OP, Try the hardware volume control (not window software volume) on the keyboard Fn key and a Fkey, usually Fn and F10 or F11,F12 etc. A new keyboard it may be muted or on low volume as default after being changed..

Like Pib said see if the device manager says sound works. In my old laptop the device manager said everything was fine but there was no sound except via wired headphones or bluetooth. It turned out the on/off switch to the built in speakers used when plugging in an ear phone jack had broken so no more sound was possible using the speakers without some hard wiring fix on the mb. I stuck with external speakers after that.

If that is the case, can it be easily fixed?

Delete the offending/conflicting driver (assuming you have such) in Device Manager, reboot the computer, and the driver will automatically reinstall itself...during the reinstall maybe it will fix the issue.  Once again, that assumes you have a driver conflict...what shows in your Device Manager?

Reconnecting physical components like cables you would need to take it back to the tech.

I got the laptop fixed in Pattaya, it would take me over 400 Ks to take it back there. I will try

out what you say and see if that helps. Thanks again.

I have just spent 1,700 Bt to get my laptop repaired in Pattaya, and it has not been repaired

properly. I was given a receipt, but apart from the cost, it is all in Thai.

Assuming it is a warranty for the repair, what would be the normal? One month, two months?

Thanks.

The few times I've had some electronic things repaired in Thailand over the last decade (like a laptop once), a 90 day warranty was provided.  But you can bet that only applies if the exact same thing breaks again in the repaired item.  Like say you have a CPU replaced in a laptop, if the GPU or hard drive breaks a week later the warranty probably would not be applicable.

Also, have you taken a look at the drivers in Device Manager yet...or the suggestions made by others?  Suggestions have been made to you....but no feedback on whether you've taken/attempted any.

This being Thailand I think you are probably right.

I have tried the device manager, and it has not helped. I have come to the conclusion that the repairer

has botched the job. I think you will know that if not fitted correctly, the new keyboard can affect the sound. Anytime I have clicked on anything to do with sound nothing happens, that starts from the sound icon at the bottom right hand side of the screen, also when I tried the sound part of the control panel.
