I have obtained a non-imm O visa in the US. It doesn’t seem to say what the purpose or basis of the visa/visit is.

Am I free to enter Thailand on this visa and extend it based on any of the usual reasons, such as retirement? Will Imm at CW ask me how I got this visa?

Unlikely. My Non-Imm Os never said what the basis was.

Free to enter and extend.

In fact all the better, as I recall someone posting wrt obtaining one from one of the nearby consulates or Embassy, and they wrote 'Marriage' on it. This caused him problems when he tried to make an extension based on retirement at a rural IO. They insisted (wrongly) he could not extend on a different basis.

What reasons did you give when applying for it?

I told them retirement but officially the purposes are listed here.

If you're going to extend, you would be extending your permission to stay, not the visa. Extending your permission to stay would obviously require you to declare the basis for the extension. If you want a one year extension based on retirement, you'd need to meet all the requirements for an extension of stay based on retirement, for example.

it is my understanding that you cannot obtain a non imm O for retirement in the USA (i am a USA citizen).  you have to apply for the non imm O-A.

your link suggests that your non imm O is for marriage or volunteering.  are you married to a thai national ?  as far as i know, you can do a 'change visa' at immigration in thailand where you would change from marriage to retirement (after entry on your non imm O).

the expert on this topic is 'ubonjoe', he will likely come along this thread at some point.  or you might want to send him a PM via this site.

where did you get your non imm O's in USA ?  i asked the consulate in los angeles and they said they don't issue them for retirement (only O-A).  maybe yours were not for retirement ? or other consulates in USA do issue them for retirement ?

UK, but some years ago. I was really only commenting on whether the Non-Imm O stamp went into detail on what it is based on, beyond any subcategory.
