So the people farming, butchering, freezing, importing pork had to get together and be taught about swine fever.shouldnt these people be educated already and how many did they apply there great knowledge to.oh and by the way they shouldn't be looking at Africa but instead turn their attention to where the real swine flu is knocking at their door, that being Asian countries.

This is not the swine flu. It is, as stated, African swine fever. It only affects pigs, not humans. They have already slaughtered 10s of 1000s of pigs in China in an attempt to eradicate it. I believe Viet is in trouble too, only a matter of time before it appears in Thailand.

Vietnam is at least admitting it has a problem. China has had this disease for a while but is somewhat reticent on how badly affected they are. Rumour has it that many millions of pigs have been destroyed. Also a few reported cases in Cambodia. Probably quite a few cases in Cambodia and Laos but not diagnosed due to a lack of testing.

It will reach Thailand sometime this year. My pig farmer friend has already started diversifying his livestock in expectation. There is no treatment, just biosecurity to reduce the risk of spread. Get some chickens in now.
