webfact
Chuan says no time limit on debate in parliament over senator selection Members of parliament will be given all the time they need to debate the issue of the controversial selection process for senators in the joint parliament meeting to elect the Prime Minister on Wednesday. House speaker Chuan Leekpai, in his capacity as the parliament president, said today (Monday) that he would not set a time limit for the debate and, asked whether the senator selection debate may delay the prime minister’s election, Mr. Chuan said that the debate will take as long as needed. When asked if it is necessary for the prime ministerial candidates to be present during the debate, Mr. Chuan simply said that this would depend on the law, parliamentary regulations and the meeting, noting that there is no law that forbids the candidates from attending the debate. Chang_paarp
Hang in there! I thought the senators were all ready appointed by the past/current government. Why does the newly elected parliament have to debate the appointment of said senators before technically forming a government? This could go in unexpected directions if some of the new MP's decided to veto some of the proposed (?) senators. Imagine the ructions if several nominated senators were vetoed and different people approved in their place. (Yes I know 2 chances, F/A and none.)

lvr181
Chuan, like a politician (or a lawyer or an 'entitled' person(?) he does not answer the simple questions put to him. He is wilfully evasive instead! After 4 or 5 years of promises for an election, next year, by the then Junta leader and now the current PM they still cannot get their act together. Keep procrastinating to hang on longer to their power, it seems? ???? Maybe they are still checking that the "i"s are dotted and the "t"s are crossed to ensure that they cannot lose control?
