Bhumjaithai party leader Anutin Charnvirakul said late Wednesday night that he got hiccups when he found out that one of the party’s MPs, Mr. Siripong Angkasakulkiat, representing Si Sa Ket province, abstained from voting in the prime minister’s election in breach of the party’s resolution.

Mr. Siripong was seen weeping and raising his hands in a “wai” gesture after he cast his abstention and left the TOT auditorium immediately after the joint sitting of the House and the Senate.

When approached by reporters asking about Siripong’s abstention, Anutin said he didn’t expect this and thought the Si Sa Ket MP might have his own reasons, adding that he would talk with him later.

Everyone regardless should be able to vote or abstain in this instance , this is called democracy and is what Thailand should be leaning towards not a dictatorship .

Clearly, he has a conscience. Maybe time for him to move over to FFP.

Why the tears? If he abstained out of principal, then he should stand up for his beliefs instead of being apologetic.

"Anutin said the party had not discussed, with the Palang Pracharat party, about its quota of cabinet portfolios in the coalition government..."

Wait...what? So they agreed to be part of the coalition government, but did not secure any cabinet positions in advance??? They're going to be screwed over by Prayuth and it serves them right.

MP's vote abstention surprises Bhumjaithai party leader

By The Nation

Bhumjaithai party leader, Anutin Charnvirakul said on Thursday that he was surprised one of his MPs abstained from the vote in a Parliament for the new Prime Minister.

Srisaket MP, Siripong Angkasakulkiat abstained from voting for General Prayut Chan-o-cha as the Prime Minister late on Wednesday.

Anutin said Siripong had already apologised to him for voting against the party’s guideline.

Anutin said that he did not count Siripong's action as a disagreement as MPs are entitled to vote however they want.

“We have to respect each other and it was hard to make 50 people think alike,” said Anutin.

He admitted that he thought that the vote might have been a split-second decision and suggested that Siripong may have been afraid of answering local residents’ questions.

However, it did not affect negotiations with Phalang Pracharat, the leading party in the coalition to form the government, he said.

Prayut got 500 votes from the 750 combined houses in the parliament to re-install the general after the March election.

He could be crying because of all that lost income he would have received. But in saying that, he would have simply just voted for Prayut if that's what makes him tick.

I'd like to think he's crying and upset because he knows it won't just be him who suffers because he refused to vote for a man like Prayut.

Obviously there was one man in that entire Bhumjaithai posse of sycophants and bootlickers who voted with his conscience, doing what he thought was right, honorable and decent. Siripong should actually be applauded, not being called in by Anutin for an "explanation".  Democracy does not need to be explained, nor apologized for. Siripong wept because he was torn between following the party line or his own conscience. He decided to heed the latter. Good on him.

Give him a good beating and kicking by a pack of thugs?

Brings the question, again, how long before all of this unravels?

Seems someone might be ready for a trip to a re-education camp shortly!

He did not vote against the party guideline, he simply did not vote.

It really is a shame that more of these tossers don't have the balls to do the same.

Sounds good but maybe you should check the meaning of abstain (I've underlined my somewhat pedantic point). Know what you mean though.????

What Thailand wants or needs is not the same thing as what the incumbent leaders who've swapped uniforms for suits says they can have !!

Two entirely different things!

Make sure you have a bag packed ready!

PS - don't pack (or wear) any socks.
