Two women injured in UK homophobic attack 'for refusing to kiss'

LONDON (Reuters) - Two women were punched and robbed in a homophobic assault on a London bus, police said on Friday, as media reported that they were left covered in blood after refusing their attackers' demands to kiss.

The incident took place in the early hours of May 30 after the two women, in their 20s, boarded a night bus in West Hampstead.

"As they sat on the top deck, they were approached by a group of four males who began to make lewd and homophobic comments to them," a police statement said.

"The women were then attacked and punched several times before the males ran off the bus. A phone and bag were stolen during the assault."

Both women were treated in hospital for facial injuries.

Arrests have been made, police later added on Twitter, without elaborating.

Melania Geymonat, 28, told BBC radio the men began harassing them when they discovered she and her girlfriend Chris were a couple.

"They surrounded us and started saying really aggressive stuff, things about sexual positions, lesbians and claiming we could kiss so they could watch us," she said.

"To ease the situation I tried to make some jokes, like Chris wasn't understanding because she didn't speak English. She even acted as if she was sick... but they started throwing coins. The next thing I know Chris is in the middle of the bus and they are punching her.

"So I immediately went there by impulse and tried to pull her out of there and they started punching me. I was really bleeding."

London mayor Sadiq Khan said on Twitter: "This was a disgusting, misogynistic attack. Hate crimes against the LGBT+ community will not be tolerated in London."

Police are still appealing for witnesses.

Can it be homophobic and misogynistic at the same time?

Surely it's either one or the other.

Were they tourists? (as one of them  didn't speak English)

Why the farangs hate the LGBT so much? The religion?

Up to them. Why other people hate it? Not their business.

What I find fascinating is that lesbians want to be distinguished from men in every possible way, down to insisting on "gay and lesbian" rather than "homosexual men and women" yet there's no separate word for lesbian phobia. This seems an oversight on the part of the politically correct

Not cool sounds like the boys might be gay attacking women and all hope the little pricks are publicly humiliated

Just some foreigners... usually old dinosaurs and people not sure about their own sexuality.

Too bad the women didn't have tasers or stun guns...wait those are illegal in the UK.  Even pepper spray is illegal?!

How are unarmed people supposed to defend themselves against these ruffians?

While i think attacking a woman is disgusting ,i have read this story and i feel there is far more to it than just what these two  are saying ,

also in the story it said one of the youths spoke in a foreign language , so immigrants did it?

London doesn't seem like a safe place anymore, not with these teenage animals roaming about.  Disgusting.

What particularly makes you think this?

Well said.

Also boys riding on pavements knocking down old people. Youths going into parks in the night and stealing anglers fishing tackle. Muslims stopping people walking down the street. Youths throwing stones at the fire fighters when they attend an incident. Mobile phone snatching. Drunken men lying across the pavement so pedestrians have to step over them. People taking Lidl shopping trolleys home and not returning them.

Not the London I once knew and loved.

Who says they do?

I certainly don't, & all the people with whom I associated with, when I lived in the UK didn't.

I do notice on Thai TV, that often a gay man appears to be laughed at, similar to the UK over 30 years ago.

This attack was absolutely vile, horrendous, disgusting.

Over to you, Yinn.....

Because the homophobic angle is always brought out,"its because i am gay" most of us could not care less if you are ,but to me it sounds as if this was plain and simple a robbery done by complete ar-eholes .

Doesn't the driver have a camera/mirror to see what's going on on the upper deck?

Violent crime rates were much higher in the 1990s, Violent crime has started to rise again in the past five years, but nowhere near the 1990s level

Apparently they have cctv from the bus.

The 4 perpetrators have been caught, teens from 15 to 18 and are being held at 4 different police stations.

The ladies both speak English, Melania is originally from Uruguay but now working as a stewardess for Ryanair .

It was her who tried to lighten the mood by joking that her friend Chris didn’t speak English, Chris is an American.

CCTV from the bus is being reviewed.

IMHO a disgusting attack on two defenceless women, hopefully justice will be served by lengthy sentences .

It certainly has attracted media attention with London Mayor and Theresa May commenting.

Right, so the attackers demand these two lesbian women kiss and subject them to a brutal and cowardly beating when they refuse.

And you tell us ‘the homophobic angle is always brought out’.

Have a word with yourself.

The correlation is also to Theresa May removing over 20,000 police officers from the force. (solid numbers).

Where are the solid numbers to back your claims?

LGBT is a religion, I think your a bit confused...

In any event I agree it's their own choice and up to them and they should be respected fully, same as all living things.

I have read the newspaper and there is no proof that it was homophobic and they were told to kiss ,only the word of these two women who were beaten and robbed, i am not saying they are lying, but please where is the proof?

Well there are no longer bus conductors and you may recall one of the concerns raised when they were removed was passenger safety, particularly female passenger safety.
