Featured Replies

Hello guys. We got married in my home counrty and lived here for a while but now we wanna back to Thailand and stay there long term. So my question is if we got married in Poland but now we will back to Thailand am i eligible to apply for Thai Marriage Visa or it only possible if you got married in Thailand?

Yes you can get Non imm O Visa or 12 month extensions from Immigration in Thailand.

400,000 baht in a Thai bank or 40,000 Baht monthly income plus a few other things.

You can apply for a single or multiple entry non-o visa at a embassy or consulate based upon marriage using your marriage certificate. It is not in English it would have to be translated to  Thai.

To apply for a one year extension of stay based upon marriage you would need to register your foreign marriage a Amphoe to get a Kor Ror 22 marriage registry that they require.

I suggest you get your marriage certificate legalized in Poland before starting your trip since that is required by a Amphoe to do the registration. After getting it legalized by an authority there it would then need to be legalized by the embassy in Warsaw. Basic info is on the embassy website. http://www.thaiembassy.org/warsaw/en/services/69761-Legalization.html

Edit: And now another one.

What does getting it legalised mean?

Isn't a marriage certificate already legal?

Confirming it is a real marriage certificate issued by the country that does the legalization.

Do you mean Thailand must legalise

our Australian marriage certificate?

Or Australia must legalise an already legal document?

Bit confused here.

Both in a way.

It may be a legal document but the issuing authority must certify it is not a forgery. That is what legalization means.

After you get the issuing authorities certification a Thai embassy must certify that the authority that did is legit.

If done by an embassy here it would then be certified by the Consular Affairs Department of the MFA.

If you want to obtain an extension based on marriage from Thai Immigration, they require an updated document (Kor Ror 2) from the Amphoe, confirming your still married and no record of divorce.

When you marry in Thailand, the registration document is known as a Kor Ror 2.

The marriage certificate is know as a Kor Ror 3.

If you married abroad, in your home Country, although the marriage may be legally recognised, your foreign marriage certificate is not. Thailand has no record of your marriage on their system.

In order to register your foreign marriage in Thailand at your local Amphoe, your foreign marriage certificate must be 'legalised'.

Your Australian marriage certificate would first have to be 'authenticated' by DFAT, then sent to the Thai Embassy for 'legalisation', who attached an 'apostille' to the document.

On entry to Thailand the marriage certificate must then be translated into Thai and the translation 'legalised' by the MFA in Bangkok.

You present these documents to your Amphoe, who will then register your foreign marriage.

For Immigration purposes they can then issue a Kor Ror 22 (denotes foreign marriage as opposed to Thai marriage) for an extension based on marriage to a Thai.

Your Australian marriage certificate may be legal in Australia, but to be recognised as a legally document in another Country, it must first be legalised.

The same applies for foreign educational decrees.
