IMO this is all about the neocons getting the war with Iran they've been fantasing about for decades, "turn the desert to glass."  Why now?  Because DT may get the bum's rush next year, so they need to act NOW. 

I'm certainly no DT fan, but from what I am getting from his reactions is he doesn't want to have to deal with the parents of dead soldiers while he's campaigning for a second term.  At the moment of this writing he's saying "I'm sure it was a mistake" in regards to the drone incident.  Never forget that DT's priority is DT: keep your eye on the ball.

 

Pence, on the other hand, is an empty suit that Bolton et al would be happy to control.  A few weeks back Pence gave a speech to the military telling them so many will die in foreign wars.  A retired brass (Wilkerson) said it was the worst address to the troops he ever heard.
