Unregistered hotels and lodgings told to get their paperwork in order, or close down

At least 5,000 of the country’s estimated 23,000 unregistered small hotels are expected to get their paperwork in order. The rush to action follows the announcement by the current government to register and comply with the Hotel Act, or be closed down.

Thailand’s 24th March election a missed opportunity says Watchdog

The Asian Networks for Free and Fair Elections (ANFREL) released its mission report yesterday (June 21st) on Thailand’s recent general election saying it was a “missed opportunity for democracy” with the striking key words “free but not fair”.

Chuan warns MPs to be honest, to not abuse their privileges

Members of parliament have been told by House speaker Chuan Leekpai to be honest in the performance of their duty, in compliance with ethical standards. They must refrain from abusing their privileges and The Speaker warned them that their malpractices may return to haunt them in the future.

Administrative court revokes NBTC order withdrawing Peace TV’s license

The Central Administrative Court today (Friday) revoked the administrative order of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) withdrawing the operating license of Peace TV on the grounds that the order was illegal.

Abbot admits selling 200-year Payoong tree to merchant

The abbot of a temple in Thailand’s northeastern province of Nakhon Phanom has admitted that the temple committee, with the consent of people in the community, decided to sell a 200-year old Payoong (Siamese rosewood) tree to a timber merchant for 1.2 million baht because the temple could not protect the tree from loggers, who had been trying to fell the tree for the precious timber which is highly prized in Vietnam and China.

Amphawan Phichalai, director of the SUPPORT Arts and Crafts International Center of Thailand, said silver garlands, created by a teacher named Naruemol Thonjai, are provided as souvenirs for ASEAN leaders attending the ASEAN Summit.

Singha Estate holds investment budget at Bt10bn

Phuket light-rail budget B34.8bn for Phase 1 only, expected to jump 10%
