BANGKOK, 22 June 2019 (NNT) - The Prime Minister has urged related agencies to find ways to mitigate flooding in Bangkok, and help alleviate public inconvenience.

The Deputy Government Spokesman Lt Gen Werachon Sukhontapatipak revealed today that the Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has received a briefing on flood drainage operations in Bangkok, advising that temporary water pumps will be installed and drainage plans initiated in 14 risk areas with another 56 areas subject to monitoring, with debris removed from water sources more frequently, and integration of the work of different agencies to speed up the drainage of floodwaters in the border areas of Bangkok into the Chao Phraya river or directly into the sea. Electricians will be on stand by at key water pumping stations to respond immediately to any malfunctions.

In addition, the Royal Irrigation Department, the Department of Highways, and the Marine Department have proposed 32 development projects to improve the drainage system which can be proceeded with immediately and will take less than three months to complete. These projects cover Bangkok and its borders, and include an excavation project along the upper part of Tha Chin river in Suphanburi. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration must now survey and log items obstructing water flow and create renovation plans by the end of this year.

The Prime Minister has acknowledged the completion of the renovation of Khlong Lat Phrao canal, which is one of the nine main canals in Bangkok; the completion of four water drainage tunnels from a proposed nine tunnels, and the completion of 31 Gam Ling floodwater retention areas, with seven more areas underway. 80 canals, with a combined length of 118 kilometers, will be excavated in July. The Department of Highways has expanded and installed under pavement tunnels and water pumps to help speed up water drainage on Vibhavadi-Rangsit road, and is set to commence a flood prevention project on Highway number 304 (Chaengwattana) this year.

The Prime Minister has urged all agencies to expedite their processes and work hard during the period of heavy rains to help alleviate the general public’s inconvenience from flooding as much as possible.

mitigate flooding

of BS

The BMA engineering department is developing methods to make water flow uphill....

But if that fails, water pushing will be used.....a tried and tested method deployed by Plod the great!

He has had 5 years to do something and as usual tells others to sort out the problem, while he does nothing. Only wants to take the credit, never the blame. Another 10 years with the useless <deleted> in charge !!

All sounds like stuff that should have been done years ago.

''I urge all parties concerned to fix this issue.''

Next year -

''I urge all parties concerned to fix this issue.''

Urge "does not equal or result" in action unless maybe wanting to take a pee.

Surely Prayuth can just pray like he claimed success for with the cyclone early in the year.

Also see it's now "mitigate" rather than solve as it was years ago.

The old annual soothing words have been uttered by the govt- BKK is safe
