BANGKOK, 22 June 2019(NNT)-This year’s ASEAN Summit in Bangkok has focused on environmental conservation, with eco-friendly green meetings and discussions on marine debris reduction.

The Deputy Government Spokesman Lt Gen Werachon Sukhontapatipak said Thailand, as this year’s chair of ASEAN and host of 34th ASEAN Summit, has been promoting environmentally conscious meetings, conference formats and the reduction of single-use plastics, which are in line with marine debris reduction and the endorsement of the Bangkok declaration against marine debris in ASEAN.

The ASEAN 2019 Operations Center Chief, Tharit Charungvat, said many countries around the world, including Thailand, have been paying more attention to the issues of plastic waste and marine debris, which have major negative impacts on the world, so they are being highlighted at the ASEAN Summit this year to promote future sustainability and reduce the burden on the environment.

Lt Gen Werachon and Mr. Tharit then presented this year’s ASEAN Summit souvenirs, under the concept ’Green Meeting’. The souvenirs are made from recycled materials, such as shirts made from plastic bottles, notebooks made from used paper and multi-purpose bags made from used plastic bags. Other souvenirs include community products from Thailand.

Thailand is an exemplar of ecological purity.

All that grey smog and haze over the Thai cities this past year (and every year) is truly 'green' -- didn't you know?!

This would be amusing if it were not so sad. Thailand is one of the least progressive nations on earth, when it comes to environmental conservation and taking care of the environment, the water, the air, and the sea. Other than a few feeble attempts on the part of a few retailers (kudos to Home Pro) to limit the proliferation of plastic bags, not much is being done.

Has anyone seen the latest proposals to tackle the massive air issues during burning season? No? Why? Because there are NONE. This administration is worse than most, when it comes to addressing the well being of the nation. All talk, and no action. Daily declaration, proclamations, crackdowns, and new laws. But, is the end result any different? No.

No follow up. No progressive policy, and no vision sums up Prayuth, and the hapless army. Poor, poor Thailand. If only it could establish a real democracy, with leaders who cared for the nation.

Waste of time...

You've only to witness how most Asians live their lives to judge their participation plus commitment to a greener planet. Life is not important and so is nature.

Not to mentioned recycled "Men in Green" uniforms running most of the Thai government.
