Half-Canadian ‘Fahsai’ is new Miss Thailand Universe

Half-Canadian, half-Thai Paweensuda “Fahsai” Drouin has been crowned Miss Thailand Universe 2019.

 

 

Judges chose Paweensuda, 26, over more than 50 other contestants in the pageant’s final round at the Thunder Dome in Bangkok on Saturday night.

 

Miriam Sornprommas was first runner-up and Thanatchaphon Boonsang second runner-up.

 

Paweensuda, 180 centimetres tall, was born and raised in Canada. Her father is Canadian.

 

She graduated in kinesiology with first-class honours from the University of Calgary. 

 

She moved to Thailand as an adult to pursue a career in modelling and deejaying. 

 

She competed in several other beauty pageants, earning titles in some, prior to this year’s Miss Thailand Universe contest. She was second runner-up in the Miss Universe Thailand 2017 competition.

 

Paweensuda’s prizes are Bt1.5 million cash, a Volkswagen worth Bt3.8 million and a condominium worth Bt12 million. She will represent Thailand in vying for the Miss Universe title later this year in South Korea.

Saw better looking women than her when I was out on the weekend. Her face certainly looks a bit strange. 

Is she the one on the left in that first pic?

  I'm sorry to say that but my wife looks much better in bikini. And she's 48 now....

 

And if I go to the Sunday market later I'll see hundreds of better looking girls.

Many posters naively think beauty pageants are decided on looks. 

 

Beauty pageants are not The Olympics! They are privately run for-profit limited companies. Their whole reason for being is to provide benefits for the directors and shareholders. The winner is chosen along those lines. The winner is tied into many contractual obligations which provide commercial value to these vested interests. Sometimes they even have a personal relationship with a major decision maker.

Is your wife watching over your shoulder while you are writing this? Or will you show it to her later to get a treat?

I don't believe there are any 48 year old women who look better than her in a bikini.

Somehow that reminds me of Trump and his visits of the changing room...

She looks like a ladyboy, not my idea of a beauty queen.

Half Thai by birth but not 100% Thai.

 

Miss Half Thailand, would be more an appropriate title.

 

As with most things in Thailand, not much is really 100% Thai.

 

For such a proud nation in want of looking Western makes me laugh...

You're so right. And many of them already have contracts with Dior and other "well known" companies. Like she does.

Cant believe all of the negativity and trolling on here. Judging her on a couple of bad pictures. You havent even heard her speak one word or seen her make one move but everyone rips her apart. Social media culture right here in a snapshot.

What a joke!  That's the best Thailand can do...I've seen hotter girls in Patong, freelancers on Pattaya beach.  Heck, even some lady Boyz look like nicer eye candy than what she has to offer....

With 17.5 million baht collectively in winnings at stake, then anyone would be a lunatic to think this is a fair playing field and all is as it should seem ... all an event in BS with the regular garbage here in charge of everything.

My Thai wife just pointed out, and I think there's some validity to this, that the international pageant folks here these days probably have some preference for leuk kreung contestants because of their English speaking ability -- which will come in handy in the international competition with their Q and A sessions.

 

After all, THEIR interests including having a Thai contestant actually win the Miss Universe pageant or at least place highly.  And then, of course, there's the whole Thai "light skin" bugaboo, where being half farang likewise is an advantage.

I agree. Beauty comes in many forms, and she's no doubt got some right stuff.
