LONDON (Reuters) - Jeremy Hunt would decide to take Britain out of the European Union without a deal on October 31 if it becomes clear at the beginning of that month that there is no prospect of getting an agreement through parliament.

Battling the favourite Boris Johnson to replace Theresa May as prime minister, Foreign Secretary Hunt said it was his democratic duty to deliver Brexit on time.

"The difference between me and Boris is not as big as people are saying," he told BBC TV.

"At the beginning of October, if there is no prospect of a deal that can get through parliament, then I will leave at the end of October because that is our democratic promise to the British people."

QUOTATION: Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.

If only it were that simple.

Can he, or Boris, do it with Parliament voting against such a Brexit. Is that democratic?

And therein lies the 'sin by omission' as everyone knows hunt supports remain, as do the vast majority of MPs.  They are just looking for a way to sell it to the electorate....

Not that boris is much better in this respect (IMO) - but hunt is desperately trying to 'change his tune' nowadays.

Rubbish.

It is for Parliament to take the best course of action for the good of the country.

Taking back control was the brexit extremist slogan.

"for the good of the country"

Ha ha - but you may possibly believe this?

I'm far more cynical, and believe that politicians are only looking out for their own interests ☹️.

No, they can't. In the UK's representative democracy Parliament is the sovereign body. Not the PM, the executive or the electorate. The executive cannot override parliament.

The current crop of self interested, self rewarding, self entitled bunch of parasitic politicians are certainly only interested in themselves.

But Parliament, the sovereign body in the UK's constitution, does have the responsibility to do what is best for the country. That's one of the reasons why referendums can only be advisory.

Whether it's leave with no deal or remain, these spineless self interested tossers dare not follow their own convictions.

Very! Because the people have voted for it and parliament is the servant of the people, not the politicians.

Not so. Parliament is the elected sovereign body in the the UK's constitution. They are elected to represent the people and indeed serve them. But serve them by making decisions that are in the best interests of the country - regardless of popular opinion at the time.

If it gets to that stage he’ll be the prime minister who lost a vote of no confidence in his government and he’ll be heading into a General Election ... followed by a Corbyn coalition government. Brexit will not be his gift to give.

Fluck whether or not its democratic. Just do it, for Pete's sake. Democracy is about as live and well in the UK as it is here.
