Defiant Sam Mitr group demands reinstatement of Suriya as energy minister

Rumbling conflict within the Palang Pracharat party appears to be getting louder as the powerful Sam Mitr faction demands that its leader, Mr. Suriya Juangroongruangkit, be reinstated as energy minister to avoid the group reconsidering its position in the coalition government.

The group, which reportedly controls about 30 MPs in Palang Pracharat, the core party of the government coalition, has also demanded that Mr. Anucha Nakasai be given back the post of deputy finance minister, a post promised to him in early June but withdrawn by Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha in his latest cabinet changes.

In a statement issued today, the Sam Mitr group claimed that Mr. Suriya, Mr. Anucha and Mr. Somsak Thepsuthin, who was expected to be justice minister, were instrumental in the formation of the Palang Pracharat party and in leading the party in the March 24th general election, as well as supporting General Prayut Chan-o-cha’s quest for the post-election premiership.

How do you say "It's time to pay the piper" in Thai?

New management, old promises, same players.

'twas ever thus.

Not enough big spoons in the trough for the promises.

P has already made veiled threats that another coup would be a solution but the current head of those that may stage it would probably want the top job so that may backfire.

One of the group of twelve-year-old children then said, "It's not fair, and if I don't get my way, I'm going home and talking my football with me."

So all those arguments saying it was a close election may blow away in the on coming storm.

We definitely don't need another coup but it would be nice if the wheels fell off Big Ps gravy train...

Would they then let the opposition majority form the next government !!!

It's a funny ol world

I would love to see this and it could happen why not. One thing is for sure Prayut has a lot more problems now then before.

Could one only imagine of having to coup again after such a joke of an election?  It would be beyond embarrassing.  cha cha WILL go down in Thai history as its dumbest ruler.  Might be a good lesson for future generations.  Failure is the best

Apparently it has happened before.Just part of the cycle.

I see it as less of a case of having more problems than having less 'tools' to deal with them than he had before.

However, AFAIK he still has that Swiss Army Knife of all problem solvers for when the wheels really start coming off and that's the unchallenged right of the army to stage a coup, replete with the usual justifications that dwell heavily on making anyone who even thinks about resisting it as being somehow disloyal to the nation or disrespectful to the institutions.

Uncle Too may soon be regretting his decision to hold an election.
