POLICE VOLUNTEER SHOT IN NONG KHET NOI VILLAGE, PATTAYA

A police volunteer was shot with a shotgun at Banglamung district at 2.40 am on March 13th. Mr. Charoen Khamjam, aged 31, a police volunteer, sustained over twenty pellet wounds in the vicinity of his left knee after having been shot by a mystery gunman.

Mr. Phiboon Sukhaphan, the leader of the volunteer police and also the Assistant Village Headman of Moo 6, Amphur Banglamung, notified Police Officer Prasit Lhekdee that Mr. Charoen had been shot while riding his motorcycle home at Nong Khet Noi village by an unknown number of assailants. Mr. Phiboon Sukhaphan, then, took Mr. Charoen to Banglamung Hospital for treatment.

The police went to Banglamung Hospital to find Mr. Charoen, still dressed in his volunteer police uniform, bleeding heavily from his left leg from the shotgun blast. He was rushed to Emergency. When he was sufficiently alert to be questioned about the incident, Mr. Charoen told the police that more than ten police volunteers were taking care of a housewarming party at Nong Khet Noi village when they received a phone call from a regular police officer in a nearby village asking for their aid to take a housebreaker that he had just arrested to Banglamung Police Station.

Mr. Charoen duly assisted the regular police officer by taking the arrestee to the police station and afterwards returned to the party in the village, but it had since finished, so he decided to go home 500 meters away on his motorcycle. On his way home, Mr. Charoen noticed a motorcycle coming towards him with two men , though he didn’t manage to take in any details such as the motorcycle colour or its registration number. The next thing he heard was a gun shot and then he felt the impact of the pellets and fell of his motorcycle. He was, however, sufficiently lucid to be able to contact Mr. Phiboon Sukhaphan, the Assistant Village Headman, by radio-phone.

Mr. Charoen was able to tell Mr. Phiboon Sukhaphan that he had been shot by mystery assailants, possibly friends of the housebreaker that he had earlier taken to Banglamung Police Station. A conclusion that was also reached by the police, but they reserve judgment until they have completed their enquiries.
