The top ten at the Brand's International after day two

Fifteen year old Tarin Pairor from Nakorn Ratchasima kept pace with the Scrabble greats at the 34th Brand's International in Bangkok yesterday.

At the end of day two of the 29 game event that finishes on Sunday Tarin was in second place with 12 wins and four defeats.

Tarin is punching well above his weight and time will tell as to whether he is able to maintain his position near the top of the leader board.

Maintaining his lead with just one defeat was Jesse Day of the USA with WESPAC 2017 champion Akshay Bandarkar in third.

World Champion Nigel Richards of NZ who lives in Malaysia

Scrabble's greatest player of all time, world champion Nigel Richards of New Zealand recovered from a relatively poor opening day to be breathing down the necks of the leading trio in fourth.

Two other Thais are in the top ten with three Singaporeans and Helen Gipson from Scotland.

Sunday will see the top two qualify for a two or three game final on stage at the Central Westgate shopping center.

Members of the public are welcome to come and view the action.

Highlights at the weekend will be a parade of nations graciously presided over by a representative of the Thai Royal Family.

Thousands of school children will be attending the event at the weekend. Sponsored by Brand's, the chicken essence company, the event is the most iconic feature of the worldwide competitive Scrabble calendar.

Thailand is a hub of English language Scrabble with many of the world's greatest players residing in the kingdom. Two Thais have won the world championship in the past.
