Neglected Yim Yom getting overdue revamp

PATTAYA:--Neglected Yim Yom Beach is finally getting a long-overdue cleanup, Pattaya City Hall said.

Deputy Mayor Pattana Boonsawad led a delegation of city maintenance and environmental officials to the Pratamnak Hill shoreline July 2 to determine how much work is needed to resolve complaints dating back 11 months.

The last time Pattaya made a serious effort at beautifying the small but popular beach was August 2018 when it removed rubble and debris left behind by the military when it demolished encroaching buildings illegally erected there.

Since then Yim Yom has been battered by storms, become a campground for homeless people and an ad hoc garbage dumpsite.

About 1,000 sq. meters have never been improved and Pattana first ordered the Environment Department to cut the grass and remove the trash. It then must work with the Engineering Department to recover sand sucked out to sea and rebuild the beach in about 1,500 sq. meters. (PCPR)
