I am on a single entry non-immigrant B visa. My employer claims that after I receive my work permit I will not be able to leave and re-enter Thailand. Is this true? And if so, is there a possible workaround? This seems unrealistic.

You can apply for a single or multiple re-entry permit stamp from immigration.

If you don't get one and exit the country, your permission of stay and WP will be voided, and you'll have to start the process all over (getting new Non-B etc etc).

No that’s not true. Assuming you have permission to stay for 90 days you can leave whenever you want, and on exit you buy a single entry Re-entry permit. When you return you’ll be stamped in for any of the remaining 90 days. E.g. if you leave on day 30, return on day 40, you’ll be given the remaining 50 days when you re-enter.

I figured it was incorrect, especially after reading about the re-entry stamp and application. Thanks! I'll be sure to apply for the re-entry permit.

Single re-entry (you can apply from international airports and immigration offices) cost is 1000baht per re-entry, while if getting a multiple it'll cost you 3800 and it'll be stamped valid until your permission of stay expires:

Will I run into issues after renewing my visa/going on a visa run after my 90 day stay is up? My re-entry won't be void along with my visa?

EDIT:

So it seems that after I receive my work permit I can apply for an extension. After I receive this extension, I will be able to apply for re-entry, correct?

Sorry, there's so much jargon and contradictory information floating around.

You would probably want/need to extend your Non-B visa (up to a year) inside the country (as it's single entry), that would mean you wouldn't need to do visa runs.

Edit: to your edit: Yes, however I don't recall whether the extension of stay was first, or the WP, too long ago, but in essence like you said ????

When you get your 1 year extension, better apply for a multiple re entry permit, so you can leave as you please and keep the extension valid.

Only if you expect to fly out more than 3 times per year tho ????

3 times per year?

There are 2 options:

- Single exit / re-entry stamp is exactly as the words say.

- One year Multiple exit / re-entry stamp has no exact number of exits / re-entries, you can use it as often as you wish during the one year life of the stamp.

3 single = 3000 baht

1 multiple = 3800 baht

More than 3 times per year - if you fly 3 times, then single re-entries are cheaper, with 4th and difference is 200thb, 5...nth you're better off with a multiple re-entry permit ???? I was answering to the "better apply for a multiple re entry permit"

Just to be clear I guess this is meaning buy single entry one by one (3 visits to immigration)?

You can get one from international airports, just take a little bit of extra time to apply for it there.

Edit: I just renewed my PP and WP for that matter, and could've gotten the first single re-entry permit at same time, elected to get it when/if I need one - haven't had the need since last entry to Kingdom at 2015, so didn't want to spend the extra time right then and there ????
