Thai junta leader orders end to army rule but keeps tough powers

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thai junta chief Prayuth Chan-ocha on Tuesday ordered an end to military rule before his new civilian government is sworn in, but kept the power to let security forces carry out searches and arrests unchallenged.

SRT-CP rail link contract expected to be signed this month

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) will meet Charoen Pokphand (CP) on Friday to discuss the handing over of 8,000 rai (1,280 hectares) of land earmarked for developing the 220-kilometre high-speed train system connecting Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang and U-tapao airports.

A total of 66 subordinate laws and orders issued by the coupmakers after seizing power on May 22, 2014 stand annulled after coup leader and Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday issued a nullification order.

Owner of electronic waste in Sakaeo given 15 days to return it to Rayong

The owner of about 300 tonnes of electronic waste, dumped in a conserved forest in Wang Namyen district of Thailand’s eastern province of Sakaeo, has been given 15 days to take all the waste back to Rayong, an industrial province on the Eastern Seaboard.

Green sea turtle found dead in a fish trap off Krabi national park

Officers from the Nopparat Thara Beach – Phi Phi Islands National Park, yesterday (Monday) removed a metal fish trap from the sea near Koh Met after some fishermen smuggled the trap into the sea. They found a dead green sea turtle trapped inside.

Bangkok—Thailand has begun constructing routes for its planned Trans-Asean bullet train line that will connect Beijing, Laos, and Singapore. The proposed modern transport system is part of the government’s plan to make Thailand the logistics centre for ASEAN. The railway project is part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative along with Thailand’s Transportation Ministry.

(Reuters) - H. Ross Perot, the feisty Texas technology billionaire who rattled U.S. politics with two independent presidential campaigns in the 1990s that struck a chord with disgruntled voters, died on Tuesday at the age of 89, his family said.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States hopes to enlist allies over the next two weeks or so in a military coalition to safeguard strategic waters off Iran and Yemen, where Washington blames Iran and Iran-aligned fighters for attacks, the top U.S. general said on Tuesday.

No entry! Foreign tourist turned back at Suvarnabhumi for not having a free page in his passport

Naew Na reported that a Saudi Arabian national was refused entry to Thailand at Suvarnabhumi airport on Tuesday because he did not have space in his passport for a Visa on Arrival stamp.
