Am looking at a week in Sihanoukville before the wet season, My thinking is to drive to Trat, overnight there ,try to get secure parking for car for a week, then bus to Koh Khong and ferry to Sihanoukville.

I would appreciate views on A. Is this a feasible plan

B. Alternate ideas

I will be driving from N/E Issan.

Cheers

yes why not, great.

NO bus direct over border, as is the case at any Thai/Khmer crossing. its MINIbus (100 bt to border, cros over, then motosai to koh Kong. or maybe there are now minibuses too.

the ONLY daily boat onto Sihville is @ 8.00 sharp, and is 15 US$ or 600 bt. its wise to have some smaller US$ noted wit you. These are the exBorneo boats that look like jets without wings.

there are also MINIbuses KohKong-Sihville, but the road is rough and has some dry rivers to cross, cost is not even much lower. depending on how many peoples, you will likely change once the mian good road PnPenh-Shville is reached.

Note that Khermland does songkran equally enhusiastic as Thaild, water all around and barang a prime target!

on the return journey on this boat from Sihville to KohKong

in December, the sea was a bit rough and even then

the boat was tossing from side to side quite violently -

many passengers were sick and so presumably the service

stops during the wet season ? Do the minibuses between KohKong-Sihville

ever get stopped by being unable to cross the dry riverbeds during the wet season ?

I did the land crossing in June last year, we had just a little bit of rain and the trip was made with success. The road is rough and if it is raining heavy I reckon you will not get through, how heavy it will need to rain I can't say. I think for most rains the minibus can wait it out on the side of the road until it stops but if it goes on all day I think you might have to turn back. I really enjoyed the road trip and the 4 ferry crossings, have a look at this THIS LINK for a similar posting, cheers.
