Hippies may not enter Thailand

Featured Replies

I first saw that sign at Sadao border crossing from Malaysia back in 1984. Also down in Singapore at that time they required anyone entering to have short hair.

This came up in another topic, and i was wondering if such a ministerial order was really issued.

I was able to find it, from 39 years ago: http://www.ratchakitcha.soc.go.th/DATA/PDF/2523/D/103/7.PDF

But i couldn't find if this was ever rescinded. Does anybody know if it ever was?

If this is still valid and immigration police ever notices it there is a chance that it could cause problems for some backpackers who still like to dress like this today.

Thanks for the research. This has been going around the internet for years. I saw the same thing here on TV years ago. I am too lazy to find the link but remember seeing it years ago.

I haven't been to Thailand for a couple of years now. But, the youngsters now with dreadlocks and dress like the old hippies were live and well when I was there. I never saw any of them being turned away. Seemed like a pretty happy lot to me.
