joint accounts allowed in thai banks?

Featured Replies

a simple question for those who really know.  a officer at bkk bank that joint accounts not allowed. i was by another that what was allowed was an account in two persons names, however both would have to be present to access the account. true or not to both?  thanks.

I have a joint account with my wife. One person can withdraw money. (Krungthai Bank)

I have a couple of accounts, Bangkok bank and Siam Commercial ,where its in my

name but my wifes name is also on the signature page where you need a UV light

to read,so i can use it for retirement extension, and when i pop my clogs ,she can

quickly empty the account, she can also withdraw money ,so it's like a secret joint

account, dont know whats is called ,if it has a name, but just explain to cashier what

you want to do.

regards worgeordie

Many Thai banks will open savings joint accounts farang man and Thai wife, and the opposite. My experience is with BBL and K Bank.

I have 3 joint savings accounts with my Thai adult son. Two anybody can sign and no need for second party to be present, one account both must sign and be present when the document is signed.

Both parties had to be present to open all of the above accounts.

If the parties involved want any of these accounts to go into an internet banking set up (in the name of one person) then both parties must be present to initially set this up.

Four of the six accounts above have 1 ATM card (both banks above said we could not have 2 ATM cards for one / any joint account).

The other 2 accounts both have no ATM card.

If your setting up new savings account many branches will tell you it's now compulsory to have an ATM card. That's totally not true, bank staff will try this because they get a commission on every ATM card issued.

Good luck.

I have a single account in both BBL and KBank for Immigration purposes and a joint account with my wife about 14 years in the local KBank, either to sign.
