MFA informs media of 52nd ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting’s key issues

 

   

BANGKOK, 24th July 2019 (NNT) - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs led by Director-General of the Department of ASEAN Affairs, Dr. Suriya Jindawong, has informed both the Thai and interantional news media that the 52nd ASEAN Foreign Minister’s Meeting, will be held from 29th July to 3rd August, during which the key issues will cover four topics and be aimed at benefitting all members.

 

Topics at he coming 52nd ASEAN Foreign Minister’s Meeting will consist of 1. Connectivity: how ASEAN states and external partners can connect their infrastructures for regional development capability in various areas, notably finance, society, people, the economy and cooperation with the +3 countries, namely Korea, Japan and China, in order to continue to build smart cities as sub-centers in the region to create sustainable development which is the main aim of ASEAN.

 

2.Sustainability: development of all kinds in the future must be sustainable and not a burden on civil society. The meeting will create a practical framework for members and other interested parties to share experiences, and find solutions together regarding the environment, society, conflicts and other issues

 

3.Environment: the 34th Asean summit, issued the Bangkok Declaration on Combating Marine Debris, and calling on all ASEAN members and allied countries to work harder in solving environmental problems. At the upcoming meeting, Thailand will invite the participating countries to offer opinions and exchange views on the different needs of each country in order to create practices that all parties accept.

 

4.Financial inclusion: this will make many sectors more involved in the economy by supporting start ups, creating more economic activities in remote communities and promoting women’s entrepreneurship.

 

Besides the key issues Thailand as the chair this year, also hopes that ASEAN will be a hub for global negotiations regarding for example, the USA-North Korea issue and South China sea conflict and other issues that may happen in the future. The ASEAN outlook on the INDO-PACIFIC allows nearly every country in the world to be a part of finding the best solutions to problems, with the region expected to contribute to the maintenance of peace, freedom, and prosperity.
