Only one person of a couple has to apply for an extension based upon retirement by showing 800k baht in a Thai bank or proof of 65k baht income. The other one can get an extension for being their spouse based upon them having the extension for retirement.

Remember with above only one has a retirement extension - the other is dependent and will lose status in the event of death/divorce.  Thus some couples prefer to each obtain their own if both qualify (over age 50 with financials).

You will have to present a copy of your proof of marriage and have original available if IO wants to see it.

Copies will always suffice, but what they do need to see is DFA authentication if the marriage took place outside of Thailand. If the marriage was in Thailand, then all you need is a copy of your marriage certificate.

I have used the dependent visa option the last two years for my wife.  Phuket Immigration has not required Thailand consul approval for the marriage document to date.  Hopefully that does not change.

I'm British and even though I've 35 qualification years for a pension NOWAY does the some amount to 65,000 Baht per calendar month. Think i'm getting 37 Thai baht for each UK pounds Stirling... Who gets 65,000 Baht month for a pension? I don't have any clue because i do not!

Thanks for the replies, I will get the marriage certificate certified in HK(where we married) and she can apply for a non O......when I apply for my extension she can coat tail soon after.

When you make your application your wife has to be with you in person you both have to be present

Application for retirement extension does not require you even have a wife.

Nor will anybody based solely on a UK State pension. Many have company pensions or secondary ones to help them. In your situation, combination may be the way to go.

It depends on what your job was and how much you earned etc, I know several people here who receive more than that but they are not receiving the basic government pension.
