BANGKOK (NNT) - The government has confirmed that investigations into the recent bombings in Bangkok will comply with the judicial process. The government has ensured fairness to all involved, after relatives of two suspects called on officers to contact them about the suspects’ safety.

The Government Spokeswoman, Prof. Narumon Pinyosinwat, said today the Prime Minister and Defense Minister, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, is closely monitoring the progress of the bombing investigations. She said Gen. Prayut has instructed security units to maintain the present level of security and urged the public to be careful. They should notify officers immediately if they spot anything suspicious.

Regarding the request made by the two suspects’ relatives concerning their safety, the Government Spokeswoman said the Prime Minister has ordered the Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, Pol. Gen. Chakthip Chaijinda, to investigate the case in accordance with judicial processes and ensure fair treatment in all respects. Pol. Gen. Chakthip said the suspects are safe and the police will contact their relatives soon. He also dismissed rumors about the suspects’ safety.

The Deputy Commissioner-General of the Royal Thai Police, Pol. Lt. Gen. Piya Uthayo, said the suspects’ arrest complies with the law and they are being interrogated to find accomplices. He said the police want the public to be confident that the case will be handled with fairness.

Meanwhile, Pol. Gen. Chakthip has set up a team of investigators supervised by the police inspector-general and deputy police chiefs. He suggested that the public receive updates on the case from government agencies to prevent misinformation.

Relatives of the two suspects traveled to Bangkok on Sunday (Aug 4) to see the suspects. The mother of one of the suspects said she wanted to know if her son was safe and asked officers to investigate the case with fairness.

The suspects’ relatives are still in Bangkok, awaiting contact from officers.

I thought there were 15 suspects all of whom were involved in the 2006 bombings, at least according to general AK47?

Don't tell your starting to believe stuff you see on the net in anyway resembles something remotely associated with fact.

Mommy look, there's a foreigner walking on the street with a backpack. Like the bad guys we saw on TV the other day.

2006 was the year of the military coup that overthrew Thaksin Shinawatra so it follows the military would blame him.

As further interest and intrigue even the current Prime Minister gets in the act and is mentioned in Wiki as one of those who may have some involvement in the bombings. I quote from Wiki:

"Conflict between junta assistant secretary General Saprang Kalayamitr and First Army Region commander and Lt General Prayut Chan-o-cha were cited as a possible causes of the bombings and the coup rumours. Both men were potential heirs to the leadership of the junta after Sonthi Boonyaratglin would retire in September 2007."

How could anyone possibly believe that a lovely man like Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha would be mixed up in such a thing?

fairness means they don't be killed from torture during an investigation, before they tell everything to police.

that was the case with the suspected terrorist a week ago, who died from brain swelling in a military hospital. That's why families of the suspects travelled to bangkok and want to see their sons.

The friday bombing was in revenge for this killing

Still barking out orders it seems. Can take the leader out if the military but can't take the military out of the Leader. You don't have Art 44 so act like a political leader, not coup leader!

Make no mistake Article 44 is still there except he now refers to is as "special laws".

To quote him in a news report.

The spate of bomb blasts in Bangkok does not warrant the invoking of a special law to respond to them, Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha said on Friday

The government will never dare admit that the bombings could be due to a divided military. Yet in history of the RTA, there were many situation of internal frictions surfacing to the open. Major General Khattiya Sawasdipol took on one of Prayut's bosom buddy Anupong and openly challenged him. His life ended with a sniper shot to his head and no investigation thereafter. Could this also be a manifestation of an internal challenge? Maybe; nuff say.

In my mind, ‘ordering fairness’ suggests that the policing/legal processes don’t normally produce a fair outcome!
