I am looking into a trip to Bali and have heard good things. I was wondering how I can get there from Bangkok and what can I expect as far as costs of hotels and food.A good clean room near the beach for 1000 baht or less fits my budget. Is it a fun place or boring. Some of the posts have mentioned it is like Phuket. Any help and advice is welcomed. Is there as low/high season there like here in Thailand?

as for getting there many airlines have direct flights including thai airways. they all land in denpasar which is the same as kuta. your budget is in line but check with a lonely planet for a better idea on this. Kuta is popular with the oz tourist. the high season rates will be in effect now but the last time i was there bali bomb #2 had taken a toll on the general happy attitude as well as a 200% increase in fuel cost so taxies are a bit high now it is better to rent a driver w/car for a few hours half day or day from 200k to 400k ruphia. Thai baht is exchanged there at a good rate. beware of maney changers as they love to do the slide of hand on the count. Bali as a tourist destination is beautiful, fun, and good value beer is good and less than in thailand

the food is not even close to the quality of thai food but there is international food. The ladies that play with tourist are from java and are quite lovley. the sellers will hound you beyound your limit at the beach unless you are in the water. take a shot have a good time and relax.

Went last month.

Only THAI fly direct from Bangkok and only an insignificant amount more than SIN and Garuda who fly via SIN and Jakarta respectively. Garuda probably not too popular at the moment so dont know about fares with them after the accident but personally I would go THAI.

I stayed in 20 US Ari Putri hotel, 5 mins walk from the beach, Sanur. 30 mins from airport. A/C pool and TV.

Depends what you like Sanur quieter than Kuta where the majority of nightlife is but taxis cheap and plentiful enough. Equivalent of 2 British pounds for a taxi.

The cheapest air fare is with Air Asia via Kuala Lumpar but will involve an overnight stay as the flights don't connect very well. The afternoon flight gets you to KL at about 6pm and we normally get the express train connection (28 min.) into KL and visit the china town market. We stay at the Pan Pacific at the airport but I am sure you could find cheaper hotels in KL.The flight next day to Bali is about 9am.This may not suit you but the savings on air fare will pay the hotels and it gives the chance to see KL.

Air Asia will be the cheapest particular if you book during one of there many special offers.

When I went last year, I avoided the overnight stop in KL but flying Bangkok to Penang then getting to overnight sleeper train to KL and flying to Bali the following day.
