sekmet
Has anybody noticed movement from the financial residency requirements? And when I say this, I mean people leaving the country. Would like to get insight from people who rent to expats, and curious about location, not only where they were living, but where they're going to. Popular Post malt25
I'd be interested in hearing from anyone, expat, after they had relocated & settled in Vietnam. After the novelty had worn off & reality had set in. 3

Popular Post crazykopite
I know of a few who have left due to cost of living and issues with immigration.living on an island is far more expensive than living on the mainland and although it’s August this is the quietest one I have known in 13 years .
Deerculler
Is Spain a good country to retire too? What is the criteria?
Popular Post johnnort
My wife ((Thai - 20 years married) and I, still retain our place in Thailand as she wishes to live there after I have passed away, although not expecting that any time soon. However, about 3 years ago we moved to Portugal. During the past 22 years, mostly living in Thailand, we have taken long sojouns back to Europe of upto 18 - 24 months each time. Loved each time away but always thought Thailand was home and returned. This time though we both realise that our quality of life here in Portugal is far superior to that that we have had in Thailand. It is not expensive here to live. The Portuguese authorities also offer foreigners 10 years tax free on any income generated from outside Portugal. We will return to Thailand to live, but not for now. 6

I don't see it as a good option if you are a Brit until the Brexit fiasco sorts itself out. Potential to need Schenagan visas.
Myshkin
Spain and Portugal much too cold in the winter. Love Mexico and Brazil, but high crime rate. I'll stick to Asia for the time being. 1
Deerculler
Thank you. The cold is a big turnoff. 1
johnnort
What cold? Choose your area based upon temperature. No need for Woolies usually, apart from maybe late evening sometimes.
1FinickyOne
I have seen a couple of people going back to USA... I suspect going back to live w/family due to impending dementia... is this going to be the elephant in the room? larger than visa issues? 1

Spain and Portugal temperatures are mostly below 10C at night from Nov till Mar, and below 20C during the day. You can't swim in the Mediterranean from Nov till Jun, unless you enjoy cold water. I don't know about the Atlantic coast though, but I think it might be even worse. We all have different comfort zones, and personally Chiang Mai weather suits me just fine. Never used the air con at home in 6 years. Just occasionally the fan around Apr-May.
johnnort
No Ocean or sea in CHiang Mai if swimming is your concern and dictates your comfort zone.

Swimming pools are fine for lap swimming and I prefer outdoor pools. In my younger days I preferred lakes, seas and oceans, as they were better suited for windsurfing. ????
