The economic cabinet is due to consider the Finance Ministry’s economic stimulus package, aimed at stimulating consumption and investment, today (Friday). The proposal includes, among other things, a one-time 1,500 baht travel allowance for about 10 million salaried workers to promote domestic tourism.

 

In his Facebook post before the meeting today, Finance Minister Uttama Savanayana said that the economic stimulus package includes subsidies for farmers affected by the current drought, low interest emergency loans for farmers, handouts for low-income earners who have been issued with Pracharat welfare cards, the one-time travel allowance and easy access to financial resources for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), so they can invest in machinery to improve their productivity.

 

According to Mr. Uttama, four million households growing rice on an area of no more than 0.9 hectares will each receive 500-800 baht in subsidies for rice cultivation.

This has the promise of being one of the biggest and most widespread scams in recent history. Both for hotels and the like and nomadic travellers and bogus tourists.

The opposition parties are going to have a field day with this so called stimulus package.

83.5% of the workforce in Thailand is unskilled (2016 data)!

It is unlikely they are salaried.

I guess who cares whether vacation plans are within their reach.
