Popular Post Justgrazing Posted August 25, 2019 Popular Post Posted August 25, 2019 Next month marks the 49th anniversary of the death of Jimi Hendrix .. A visionary of a musician with an extraordinary ability for playing a guitar Hendrix has consistently been cited the greatest instrumentalist alongside being considered one of the major influences in the history of modern music .. An outrageous showman on stage belied that Hendrix was said to be quiet and reserved off it who listed Wagner and Strauss among his personal choice in music .. Little more than a year after his legendary rendition of the National Anthem at Woodstock that so encapsulated the time he was no more .. Now near 50 yrs on his music seem's to be as popular as ever judging by the number of Y/T hit's of his songs , memorabilia bearing his image , commercial sampling etc with his estate earning huge amounts in royalties .. and his continued popularity seems assured in Thailand judging by the number of times I've ever heard Purple Haze or Hey Joe blasting out of Pattaya bars .. So put quite simply was/is he the best ever rock guitarist .. 6
Damrongsak Posted August 25, 2019 Posted August 25, 2019 When I was about 16 years old or so (1969), he was my man. I had a big poster of him in my bedroom. Freaked out my Mom. 2
Puchaiyank Posted August 26, 2019 Posted August 26, 2019 Anyone remember the rock concert at "Love Valley" NC...probably circa early 1970...? A "woodstock" type performance without the rain...estimate 200k people attended...I lived in NC at the time and was fully wasted by the time I got to the concert...still remember bits and pieces...???? https://www.statesville.com/news/years-ago-this-weekend-love-valley-hosted-its-version-of/article_5fa95a36-695f-11e7-8de2-ab37751ac63f.html 1
Orton Rd Posted August 26, 2019 Posted August 26, 2019 If his old girlfriend Kathy Etchingham had not dumped him by getting married when he was on tour in the USA he might still be around. You can visit their old flat in Brook st Mayfair and the adjoining Handel house for ten quid. She had her head screwed on and was down to earth while many other women is his life, including the nutter he died with at the Samarkand hotel were total airheads.

ProbPossConf Posted August 26, 2019 Posted August 26, 2019 Jimi's style of play and music is often used by Thai musicians, especially Sek Loso if you have ever seen his concerts. 1

Yes indeed .. As many have down the yrs .. even those who have achieved greatness thereselves like Clapton , Page , Beck and many more all mention him as a major influence in their work .. Clapton himself has recalled how when new in London J H attended a gig that Clapton was playing where all the pop/rock royalty of the day were present .. Clapton aware of his presence invited him up for a jam .. Hendrix it is said reluctantly accepted and almost had to be led on stage before eventually setting the place alight with a version of Howling Wolfs " Killing Floor " a song that Eric had been trying to master and perfect .. It is said at this point Clapton moved to the stage side and marvelled with the rest of the gobsmacked audience at what they were witnessing .. From that moment they formed a strong friendship right through to J H's death ..
