Tropical storm Podul expected to hit northern Thailand Aug 31-Sept 1

 

 

Thailand’s Meteorological Department is closely monitoring tropical storm Podul, which is expected to cross into northern Thailand and cause heavy rain between August 31st and September 1st.

 

The storm pushed across eastern Luzon of the northern Philippines on Tuesday and Wednesday morning, weakening to a tropical depression while it was just off the coast, but it has since regained tropical storm status since moving over the South China Sea.

 

Podul may reach typhoon strength prior to landfall for a second time, which is likely to be in Hainan on Friday, followed by another landfall in northern Vietnam on Saturday.

If I lived up north I would pay attention to the progress and track of this storm.

anyone going to central/northern Vietnam for vacation may want to reconsider.

It was 5 of these storms back to back which caused the big flood in central Thailand 2011. Along with a fear of discharging the water being held in dams at the time a perfect sttorm happen. To much water in storage and plenty of rain equal one big flood.

More garbage as usual from BOM. It will hit Vinh North Vietnam coast Saturday by then it will have died as a tropical storm.

Looks like a job for Prayuth the Prayer. Didn't he sort the last one with a couple of prayers in the right direction?

Looks like the reservoirs here in Isaan may get the water that is desperately needed.

One of those little " Rain Seeding " Planes must have gone off course to cause this Storm.

I hope the Pilot can find the way back home.

I hope so, as you say they desperately need it, at this time storm is tracking towards Northern Thailand, early days yet..............

Our reservoirs here are pretty full in fact we've had some localised flooding the last couple of days!

Here will be in Tambon Koknakoh Ampaa Patiew Jangwat Yasothon,right next to the Amnat Chareon/Yasothon border.Looks like the system is heading directly towards us here.

Just looking on wunderground and it look like here in Udon Thani we're going to get hit right between the horns

some rain band effects to be felt soon..

You should get yourself a manager & go on TV rather than being an armchair forecaster...  better than sitting at home handling yourself !

Bang on the money Legend49. You are so, so right. These forecasters are Ok when it actually starts to rain but up 'til then it's pure guesswork. It makes me smile to hear Thai weather forecasts. I think some should tell then Thailand is mostly south of the Mekong river.

 

In saying this, we desperately need water; and lots of it. The water table is 2 metres down on what it should be for this time of year. Already lost a lot of rice because of early planting; then no rain worth speaking about for 6 weeks. Damage was done. Some farmers have re-ploughed and sown again. Just getting further into debt.

the first wave of rain DIRECTLY connected to the storm has just reached the Thai border.

 

the storm is beautiful. look at this loop. you can see the huge bands of rain spinning off, in particular the backside of the storm.

 

this loop is almost realtime so if you look at it hours later it will be different.
