PEA all set to move electricity, communication cables underground in Nakhon Ratchasima municipality

A mega project to move electricity cables and communication lines underground is commencing in Nakhon Ratchasima municipality after a budget of Bt2 billion was approved. The project is expected to take a year to complete.

 

According to a cabinet resolution on February 14, 2017, the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) was given the go ahead to proceed with the project in this big city to reinstall and improve power systems. Besides Nakhon Ratchasima municipality, the project will run in three other selected areas – Chiang Mai municipality, Pattaya and Hat Yai – and cost Bt11.6 billion. 

 

On Monday morning, the Nakhon Ratchasima PEA posted a notice in front of its 5th office that following “cabinet approval”, the authority “will move electric cables underground”. 

 

The project involves moving communication lines and electricity cables underground on seven roads – Chumpol Road, Radchadumnern Road, Suranaree Road, Burin Road, Pibool La-iad Road, Chomsurangyat Road and Pho Klang Road. The operation will be completed in September 2020. These roads will be closed from 9pm to 4am daily and the PEA warned that all vehicles should avoid the areas during these times of operation. 

 

The authority had installed underground cables around Thao Suranari monument years ago, which helped the landscape become cleaner and more beautiful.

Last year Pattaya North, South and Central Roads were dug up at huge expense to put all cables underground as far as I can see none have moved underground. The utility companies refused to pay the high rental costs involved in renting the underground tunnels!

Additionally I have concerns about the engineering standards and quality involved in building the underground 'tunnels' to hold the cables and ensure they are watertight etc., etc.

Not fair hiding the cables how will Somchai tap in to steal power?

How are they doing in Pattaya?  I haven't seen one cable buried.

I would think next years stories may well include pedestrians being lit up when stepping on manholes and doubling when it rains

Not sure but they are currently digging up one side of Pattaya Klang east of Soi Buakhao and laying what looked like their reinforced rubberish 15cm or so piping. I only looked closely because I had to walk past to get to the dentist and this "pipe" was being laid out in a trench that was only about a foot (maybe 2 max) or so below the road surface.........

I thought surely they are not just going to chuck concrete on top of that?
