September 5, 20196 yr Keeping pubs open till 4am is just about the worst idea ever. Not only will there be more alcohol-related problems, but I don't think anyone will say "Gee, let's go to Thailand instead of [insert alternative destination] so we can drink in the pubs till 4:00!" In the age of legalizing cannabis, why not give people places where they can use it recreationally in tourist areas? This would not only increase tourism, but the government could earn a healthy tax revenue on products sold, cover charges, licensing for the establishments, etc. I'd much rather have more people walking around high on weed than more people drunk on alcohol.

You obviously didn't know Thailand before opening/closing restrictions to bars & clubs. When they were open literally 24/7. That was a time when trouble in bars was extremely rare. IMO (and not just in Thailand) when you put any restrictions on opening/closing times you create problems by causing bottlenecks where masses collide, ie, kicking out times. Of course I understand the changing demography that has occurred in Thailand, but even in the old days (before restrictions) the bars were full of multi-nationals. As for your second comment (let's go to Thailand because of the party atmosphere), that was always a major factor for myself and thousands of others. And just for clarity, I am no longer a drinker (been off it now for over 20 years) but still feel closing times are extremely important to the tourism industry and for tourists not to be told when they can and can't have a drink.
