Weekend flooding threatens provinces in the Chao Phraya basin

The Royal Irrigation Department has issued an urgent flood alert for seven provinces as more water is released from the reservoirs feeding the Chao Phraya dam at Chai Nat province in central Thailand (map below). Residents in the seven provinces are being advised to monitor water levels closely as the water is released.

Seven provinces still face a critical situation as floods continue under the influence of tropical storms and the monsoon.

 

Some 16,231 people are waiting to be evacuated as the provinces of Phitsanulok, Phichit, Amnat Charoen, Yasothon, Ubon Ratchathani, Roi Et and Si Sa Ket remain affected, said Chayaphol Thitisak , the director general of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation.

STOCKHOLM (Reuters) - The Swedish prosecutor investigating a rape allegation against WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange said on Monday she had interviewed seven witnesses, including two not previously heard, but had yet to determine how to proceed in the case.
